7-year-old Owen Howkins has an extremely rare disease called Schwartz Jampel Syndrome, a debilitating condition that forces his muscles to tense up at all times.
The young British boy is one of just 30 reported sufferers of this disease.
His parents feared their son would be doomed to a lifetime of pain and loneliness until they found Haatchi, a three-legged rescue dog who formed an immediate connection with Owen.
This touching short film made by students at the University of Hertfordshire last year tells the story of a friendship formed out of tragedy, one that the boy and his dog wouldn’t trade for all the medical miracles in the world.
