Good move. This will no doubt get more people onboard DD.

TBH, if both MS and Sony follow this practise of cheaper ($39.99) DD games, people, will be more inclined to buy - which means better for them. And will probably hurt retailers more than online restrictions etc ever would.

    Well done.

I wonder if this can also be traced back when Angry Joe brought this up to Don Mattrick. Joe kind of needled him in the interview a little bit. lol

If Sony or MS can replicate to some degree the way steam, Amazon, and other sites handle PC gaming sales, that would surely win over so many people to their console and DD in general. Imagine a big annual sale-a-thon or stronger weekly sales on games and DLC.

If you watch Amazon's deals you can find PS4 Digital games for cheap. I got Assassins Creed 4, BF4, Madden 25 for $29.99 and Killzone for $39.99 around the holidays.

This is true. It just sucks they don't have all of them (e.g. NFS Rivals, Tomb Raider DE etc).

I would love it if they started giving us digital copies along with the physical ones like they do with blu-ray movies. When you buy a physical copy you get the digital version as well. This way they can bring in those people not comfortable with going digital.

How will they police DRM then? What's stopping people form just using the DL code with the disc, and trading/returing physical copy?

Unless you want DRM-gate all over again.

    No thanks.

Cheaper DD is the best and only way to do this without compromising the consumer.

People have to open a game to be able to use a code. Stores don't take returns on opened games, you can only return them for the same copy.

So stores will need to verify if the code has been scratched or not. I don't see how it will be DRM-gate all over again.

People can do the same with blu-ray movies but we still have the option.

    EDIT:

A least, going by store policies in the U.S., can't speak for where you live.

Ok, so no returning it. How about I take the physical copy to a friends house, and let him have that since I have the digital version.

ain't this just a seven day sale by any other gage? lower the price as a permanent price differential between retail and digital and yeah, MS done good. but not for 7 days.

Do what Sony is doing for PS3 upgrades. Just require the disc (if that really is a concern.) People who get blu-ray movies with a digital copy can do the same.

But yes, good point....I was completely ignoring that aspect.

We don't know the details of this yet. This is something Microsoft is testing and the title being mentioned is Ryse which is a Microsoft exclusive IP. Do you know if third-party will be doing this?

You seem to think it is as easy as Sony / Microsoft deciding to lower the price and they hit a switch.

Microsoft is making the first move. Let's see if other publishers and Sony follow.

This is way to do it. MS should create incentive for digital over physical instead of originally trying for force digital.

They did with Killzone. Game was bad, so still was not worth it for me.
