    Confirmed: Thief on PS4: 1080p/30fps, XB1 900p/30fps.

    Thief outputs at a native 1080p resolution on PlayStation 4 and a native 900p resolution on Xbox One, Square Enix has confirmed to Eurogamer.
    Doesn't that place this as being one of the smallest/smaller differences between the two console versions? It's only a 16.66% difference in the pixels being rendered, at the same framerate.

    900p isnt bad and certainly better than 720p. That being said the PS4 version being at full 1080p would be the one to choose. DF will no doubt be looking for any graphical differences.

    lol..i remember that. It was just a mistake. i'm sure he owned up to that and followed up with a tweet correcting it. Thuway doesn't when he is wrong. He covers his ass by spinning. Remember when Cboat and him were claiming Titan Fall alphas textures were the final ones. Well it's not, and they haven't admitted that they were wrong to my knowledge.

    Check your math. It is not 16.66%

    It is closer to 50 percent. Btw, it is not (1080-900)/1080

    apparently, dev might be targeting 1080p with the freed up GPU allocation....

    Maybe the pacing has something to do with it, or maybe the PS4 isn't quite hitting steady 60fps resulting in a 30fps cap? wont know until the game comes out it seems >_<

    Given the disparity we've seen in other titles, I speculate the PS4 version is held back in some regard. They probably could hit 60fps on it, but chose not to. Whether this was a direct choice of, "Let's limit the FPS," or an indirect, "There's no need to push the PS4 build further, we got them pretty equal," choice, I don't know

    No not quite...

    It would actually be

    1920*1080 = 2073600
    vs
    1600*900 = 1440000

    1440000 * 100 / 2073600 = 69.4444

    100% - 69.444 = 30.5556%

    Because they are maintaining a 16:9 ratio more of a third less pixels being processed. So yeah not 50% but not 16% either.

    What do you mean scaled 1920x900? That would be an odd resolution to use and then scale from. All game play shots have been at 16:9 ratio. Going by the 900p number would put it at the same resolution as Ryse.

    There's nothing preventing a vertical upscaling like that. There's a difference between the internal rendering and the final image. Regardless, I don't keep up with or care for these battles of pixel resolutions. It was just a passive comment and question.

    Oh I know, not having a go, just clearing things up. Though having an opening comment in a thread talking about the differences in pixels, which would have required the maths to be done, then commenting on some one else claiming the differences to be more than your original numbers, showing the maths of how you got the percentage, doesn't quite count as a passive comment and question.

    You are right though that there is nothing stopping them doing that kind of scaling. Though they are either rendering at 1920*900 and the X1 scaler pulling the 900 up to 1080, or the 1920 is being pushed back down to 1600. Chances are though its simply 1600*900 to free up as much processing as possible, if the other methods were being used we would have heard about it as they are interesting techniques and image processing.

    Could be just like tomb raider where the devs stated that both version would be 30 fps but the ps4 ended up being 60fps...who knows
