Should I buy an Oculus Rift dev kit?

Someone in my area is selling an Oculus Rift dev kit for $300. I am really interested in this thing, but I am not sure if I should put out $300 for it?

There is a first person Legend of Zelda game for it that I wanted to try, but I am afraid this thing will suck ass lol

I'd pick one up for stuff like Titans of Space.
Thanks to Sylar for the signature!

Totally up to you but unless you plan to do dev work id say wait for retail

Kindda sad that hes selling it used for the full price. You can order it brand new for 300$

They both become utterly useless once you start to open up Windows....

Indeed wait for the HD units. The older units are over bulky, uncomfortable and very low res. There are only a very small amount of developers that have a HD version to test with currently so my advice would be to wait until it either hits retail or is available on the main OR website.

I've got one together with a friend.
It's fun for a month, then you get bored because there's not that much support out there.
It's worth the price honestly, because it really is amazing, but once you've gotten past that 'stage' you're starting to be like 'though indeed the screen could've been better' or 'but the support is quite limited..' and blah blah.

Worth the price? Yes. If it's a new one.
Should you get it? If you really want one, yes. If you're a patient man, just wait for the better ones.
What should you pay for a used one? I'd go for info and ask if you can test it out honestly. Gives you a couple of advantages. You can see in what state the person has left the device; you can see how good/bad he/she has taken care of it and if it is quite disappointing when you're playing, you can still say no.
Nonetheless, for a used one, I wouldn't even pay 200... Maybe 175 or something? But that's a max...

    Though...
You can't order it anymore if I'm not mistaking.
They're running out of supplies and stopped the sale of dev kits because of it I thought.

I think I will just wait for the Sony VR set. I didn't know these were not in HD.
