You can make some really solid 500$ builds right now. They got 750 Ti's marked for 150$ or less, which is an amazing performance to price ratio.

Hey....ya never know! Seriously, I decided to go ahead and get a power supply that will handle pretty much anything we throw at it down the road.

    *ASUS A85XM-A FM2 AMD A85X (Hudson D4) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard $77
    *AMD A10-6800K Richland 4.1GHz (4.4GHz Turbo) Socket FM2 100W Quad-Core Desktop Processor - AMD Radeon HD 8670D $140
    *Team Vulcan 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory $50
    *Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive $80
*LG Internal Super Multi Drive SATA Model $15
    *1200W Power Supply $120
*Rosewill Thor V2 Full ATX Gaming Tower $90

    Total: $572.

Already had keyboard, mouse, and monitor. And you don't have to change those things out that often anyway.

So this isn't nearly the fastest gaming PC out there and it certainly doesn't rival a PS4, but he loves games like Arma 3 and they play great (no idea what FPS and stuff like that). The GPU is integrated with the CPU, but I knew that going in. The motherboard does have a slot for AMD Crossfire if he needs to upgrade his video. Or if he needs a newer video card, we can disable the Crossfire and go with something beefier.

Now I am a console fanboy.....that much we know. But as far as the costs for PC, I'm not seeing it being that high based on what we did. The bold items will probably never need to be replaced unless they go bad (possibly hard drive as well). The motherboard, CPU, memory cost me about $260. Those, along with the video card, are the most probable upgrade items. But in two or three years, I really don't see much problem spending the extra dollars to beef it up some more. First thing I'll probably upgrade is the memory. Think I went too cheap there.

So big edge in convenience for consoles, imo, but not so much in costs that I can see.
you will end up paying high price relative to gpus in coming years if u don't upgrade ur mobo as well. and that build is already low end due to its onboard gpu.

It will play all the current games, but on medium settings rather than high. That's not low-end, imo. Intel graphics are low-end.

I'll have to check. I think he runs around 1366x760 or something like that. Around 30 fps. Not 100% sure.

The AMD APUs are really nice pieces of tech. They have a lot of horsepower for the price, size, and power usage. They'll run most games at max. AMD has a new line coming sometime this year that's looking really impressive.

Yeah, it is pretty sweet stuff. Just checked with my son. He is playing Arma 3 at full 1080p between 20-30 fps. We pulled up his video config and it shows both resolution and frame-rate.

I gotta say. Imo, that is pretty damn awesome for a <$600 PC.

I'm the same. I've got a 1200w Corsair AX1200i in my build. It's not even breaking a sweat yet and it's running an overclocked GTX 780, overclocked 6 core i7 and my custom waterloop. It's nice to have the headroom though.

Not really. I needed a big PSU.

Then again I didn't need to build a loop or overclock a 6core i7 so maybe you're right

The rumours say that it got so hot in the rooms that the women working there only wore their underwear.
