Game Rentals Appear On The PlayStation Store

    source

It seems that Sony may have snuck in a new feature to the PlayStation Store.
For those who may not have noticed, the PlayStation Network received an update today that was originally scheduled for last Tuesday. The reason for the delay was that there was a bug in the system. However, it appears another reason could have been for more time to add extra features to the store, as some rental options have appeared for certain titles.

Screens taken from our PlayStation 3.

Yeah I was reading about this yesterday and I would be very interested in a PS Store rental service.

Saw this on IGN earlier, suppose they have to start trying it out somehow as it's not really that far away from the launch of PS Now in America!

Why is 1 day rental not free and 7 day rental is free?

my guess is that it's probably a dumb glitch or they just don't care to fix that yet.

i assume it's showing that because it's for people that don't have PS+ or PS Now and it would charge them a higher premium.

I'm sure this is more likely tied in with ps now serivce and not so much the ps+ service.
Chances are good if you pay for ps now there is a rental fee
And if you pay for ps+ AND ps now, there is no rental fee

Just a guess on my part tho

7 days for ps+ is a nice move, no one will bother to download if it is only for one day, but 7 days will gather alot. They need this for the stress tests.

I wonder if the whole game will be unlocked. I'm sure it will but for short games you could beat it in 7 days. It's a really good idea though.

i think it will be more difficult for them to block out content from older games...so i presume it's all going to be there. but i think they are doing this because PS3 PS+ content is going to decrease moving forward and this is a great way to get people to get PS Now.

    I think it's a glitch or something. I doubt it's a 7 day free rental.

not to my knowledge, from my experience, whenever there's a PS+ feature, only then it asks you to join it. otherwise where's the sales pitch?

sorry i shouldn't say "decreased", i mean...it will decrease because not many new games are coming out but there should be plenty of content they can bring eventually...lots of games they haven't put on PS+...that they can make deals with later.

and they can always bring back the older games, no one is stopping them. but yeah, give it 2+ years and it should start to decrease with new exciting content...they will surely bring back older stuff though...well maybe!

Is the game available for streaming during the rental period or is it downloaded and only works for the rental period?

If it is streaming during the rental period, that is what PS Now is...

I dont know, 7 day rental just sounds too much. For example, some Batman game. You can play the story through and you don't have to pay a cent after that rental, if you don't care about beating the game 100%.

We will not get free rentals, 7 day rental will probably be like $10.
