    i want to at anybody who thinks that this game has been downgraded. its "certain individuals" wanting to downplay the graphical fidelity of a AAA game on the ps4.

    just watched that 20min gameplay vid on youtube and it looks great, so it should look much much better again.. once the games up and running on my PS4.

    The only real thing I've seen as a "downgrade" currently is during sequences where you are controlling your character, it appears that neither you nor your enemies cast much of a shadow, if at all on the ground. All other objects in the environment do. And the moment you've transitioned out of a free roam combat sequence you start casting more defined shadows again.

    Who knows though, perhaps shadows were not active during that video capture. Or maybe they aren't meant to be to maintain a decent framerate during peak combat moments. Won't know till I get the game and see the final release version.

    I did notice the lack of shadows, but the game still looks awesome. Many people won't notice or even care.

    With the release of*inFAMOUS: Second Son*in just six days, Sucker Punch is dropping some more information about the tech powering the game. Tech Art lead Jason Connell mentioned*on Twitterthat the game uses*Subpixel Morphological Anti-Aliasing T2x to remove the hated jaggies from the edges of the titleís gorgeous models:

    Graphics Programmer*Matthijs De Smedtadded*that the team has done a few modifications of its own to the tech. For the sake of comparison,Ryse: Son of Rome*used the slightly less advanced SMAA 1x.

    At the bottom of the post you can see a chart comparing performance of the various anti-aliasing method at different resolutions and a screenshot comparison between no anti-aliasing and SMAA T2x courtesy of NeoGAF user*Wishmaster92.

    We also learn that yesterdayís screenshotsshowcasing different times of day*were captured directly on PS4 for a rather interesting reason:

    Yes. Our tool chain for making time of days is very reliant on editing in-game ON the PS4.

    Finally, Connell mentioned*on Facebook*that the ďOrbital DropĒ power uses a rather enormous amount of particles.

    The rain alone was 25,000! Iím not sure exactly but itís a LOT for that particular power!

    For reference, the Orbital Drop power is smokeís Karma bomb, that we have seen at the end of theE3 trailer.

    Itís hard not to be impressed, and itís quite interesting to see the effect SMAA T2X on the game. It definitely achieves great results in eliminating overly visible aliasing, but it grants much better performance than the more traditional MSAA (while it looks a lot better than the rather cheap FXAA). I can definitely see the technique being used more and more as the generation progresses, considering its balance between results and performance.

    It Depends. We turn them on and off. Here you’re not gonna see so much shadowing going on because it’s night time so you don’t really have a strong directional source…

    It kind of depends on the effect we want to go for. In a bright day time scene, absolutely, you get these really nice smooth shadows on everything, at night time when the light really is coming from all around you, you don’t get super crisp shadows in the real world, so we don’t have them here.
