Russia can turn US to 'radioactive ash'

Oh US, you dung gone and pissed off the mother country.

Moscow: A Kremlin-backed journalist issued a stark warning to the United States about Moscow's nuclear capabilities on Sunday, as the White House threatened sanctions over Crimea's referendum on union with Russia.

"Russia is the only country in the world that is realistically capable of turning the United States into radioactive ash,'' television presenter Dmitry Kiselyov said on his weekly current affairs show.

Behind him was a backdrop of a mushroom cloud following a nuclear blast.

Mr Kiselyov was named by President Vladimir Putin in December as the head of a new state news agency, whose task will be to portray Russia in the best possible light.

His remarks took a propaganda war over events in Ukraine to a new level as tensions rise in the East-West stand-off over Crimea, a southern Ukrainian region which is now in Russian forces' hands and voted on Sunday on union with Russia.

Russian television showed images of ethnic Russians in Crimea dancing, singing and celebrating the referendum, but followed them with accusations that Kiev's new authorities and the West have allowed ultra-nationalists to attack Russian-speakers in eastern Ukraine.

Kiev and the West blame the violence in eastern Ukraine on pro-Russian groups and say the Crimea referendum is illegitimate. The United States has warned of imminent sanctions against Moscow.

Strictly speaking, I think that's a load of crap. China as well is nuclear capable. So they're "one of a few", not the only one.

I will grant you, though, that they are certainly the world's number 2 military super power. I'd rate them above China.

Depends what they mean by "realistically capable".
China is a really small country compared to Russia.
China might have the power but given the size it wouldn't take long to retaliate and resolve the issue, Russia on the otherhand :-/

Some one asked me what my favourite super power was. I replied "cold war Russia"

    How about some nuclear comedy.

People just need to stop being stupid and work together for solutions. It's bad but I refuse to be all doom and gloom about it.

Honestly I wish the US would just stop. Every country in the world seems to hate us so screw it then.

Focus. Control. Conviction. Resolve. A true ace lacks none of these attributes. Nothing can deter you from the task at hand except your own fears. This is your sky.

Bg words.. The US has got more than a few nukes of it own, not to mention the fact that the UK and France are duty bound to retaliate in kind on behalf if a fellow NATO member was attacked. Not that I'd trust the Frogs to keep their end of the bargain..

Over 400 British life's were lost in Afghanistan after we went to war as part of a NATO force to retaliate for the attack on the world trade centre.. You think the UK would stand by and do nothing if the Russians instigated a nuclear war with our biggest allies?

I didn't said Uk won't inlove the matter if something that ridiculously stupid happens. I meant NATO means $#@!. Thats all. Alliance that made in peaceful times are almost meaningless when it comes to war. I won't comment on dead person ever. So won't comment on your 400 soldiers, hope they are at peace right now.

Arguably, we have seen a world full of relative peace and without major warfare since the invention of atomic and nuclear weaponry. To be sure, it is a world balanced on a knife's edge at times and I won't deny it. But I am not sure if I'd rather live in a world with or without nuclear weaponry.

Truly, we'd have mass conventional warfare multiple times since the 1940's which would eclipse WorldWar II.

The only serious wars normally come about as proxies (Korea, more or less Vietnam) or between non-nuclear states. Even when Nuclear states are involved directly against other players (Russia vs Chechyna, Georgia, etc) nukes have never been used.

It is difficult, I think, to deride MAD and nukes while at the same time live in a world which has benefitted enormously from their existence. It's not in any way a perfect world, but small flare ups and conflicts is preferable to mass war.

i don't think we've had much peace honestly. maybe in the western nations but if you look at the data and compare it to the older data, there have been just about the same amounts of deaths and destruction...just the way it's accounted for and looked at has changed.

i also don't think having or lack of bombs makes a difference, bigger nations have understood that massive scale wars are not the answer, it's the proxies and resource take-overs that are more sustainable.

i'm thinking US is putting pressure on Russia because the rebels they support in syria are losing to the syrian army. russia was a big player in making that happen. this is what i have been saying, cold war never ended. it may not be a cold war in the traditional sense but it's there.

i still think US is going to strike syria once syria does not comply by june/july 2014 about the chemical weapons disposal. i have to admit, the US is very good at this war chess game.

i bet the jews/arabs/chinese are involved in this too.

exactly, sanctions is nothing other than a passive terrorism tactic. both countries do it, the UN does it, but apparently when it is done to a big power that has the power to repel, it becomes a big deal.

it is a form of tactic to cause war or make the enemy do things they otherwise would not. it's like slightly choking a person/animal until they react with something far worse. and then it is their fault because they reacted so violently. psychological warfare.
