Thank god for Sony leading the way now.

We have a few other entries being developed, valve for one. Someone will step into this now vacant VR PC space.

Project Morpheus' one obstacle has been swept aside.

Time for Sony to get that out ASAP and capitalize on the lack of gaming VR

Can someone please tweet Shu and ask him to please confirm if Morpheus works well on PC? I will purchase one if it does.

I'm sure nothing will happen, per-say. Just gaming will no longer be a top priority for it I imagine. Probably social stuff, and facebook games, etc.

    Oculus acquired by Facebook

Devs seem split on the news. Some welcoming the acquisition, some dropping support, some asking SONY for devkit.

Instagram didnt change much after FB spent 19 billion on them. I would not peg them as the destroyer of OR just yet.

Sorry but too many times i have seen a acquisition or merger where head people promise no change and end up a disaster for consumers.

Well reading through the comments of both the FB and OR guys it seems that they are wanting to achieve the same things. FB sure might be focused towards software and other things however after thinking long about this I've actually come to the conclusion that FB might influence OR in some ways, the development of the entire OR SDK is so far along now that it would be a disaster for FB to change the focus. Considering that OR is also hardware based the technology will essentially be exactly the same anyway whether FB bought them out or not.

I am also thinking that essentially the SDK would also stay the same as the SDK is used primarily to get the OR to function on the PC. FB have stated that they'll let OR focus primarily on PC games first and foremost, afterall it's so far in development now and it has so much backing that it would be a disaster otherwise, but their future plans would be coming afterwards. I am intrigued how a mobile VR headset would work though, these devices will need to come with lots of AAA batteries and be much slimmer if anything like that is to happen!

Having said all that WHY did it have to be FB?

FB is the most evil of all organizations right now. they are likely the biggest driver for big data which results in discrimination, suppression and oppression of people in the wrong hands.

i generally use FB for status updates but I realize i'm part of the problem. FB is essential right now, there's no competition and what would make a competition better anyway? they'd do the same things to make money.

Zuckerburg's entities may be the most intrusive spying machines humans have ever known. Oculus is obviously going the way of Kinect.

There's nothing inherently wrong with big data. Like anything, it can have the potential to be used incorrectly or for more malicious purposes.

Big data is used for prevention, enhancement, and various other positive outcomes in a number of areas.

Honestly, I'm not a terribly big fan of Facebook/Zuckerberg. But sometimes, it seems like the 'hate' is misguided a lot of the times, and people don't actually (truly) know what they're hating on.

In this case, I think Facebook is another one of those things that's 'cool' to hate on where the internet "rallies" (see George Bush, Justin Bieber, etc).

    #IndieStation4 and proud of it.

that's just the problem. these things would not survive if there was no positive. it's a diversion tactic. this is why we fall for this $#@! every time. the sole reason for FB's existance is to make money and get more users. if you think for any minute that their plan is to "help" people, you are mistaken. that's just a bi-product and a bait.

the real reason is intrusion and i did mention that big data in the wrong hands is bad...guess what, it's already happening. because there's no restriction on who can acquire this data. that is why it's ultimately bad for us than good.

oh and i don't hate justin beiber, i have no reason to. i also don't hate on bush after i realized he was a puppet. i put him in the same category i put obama.

i also don't have a political agenda because i don't associate myself with a party.

I will start thinking more positively when someone gives me good reason to do so.
Right now I'm not seeing any good reasons for it.

2 billion? I would have sold that $#@! too and collect royalty.

I never really followed the oculus closely. I just seen a few videos here and there.

as far as what FB will bring it to...regardless of the use, it will definitely give it a proper backing if it were ever going to succeed. FB is more vicious than MS when it comes to how they market and how they push their products.

but i'd like to think of it akin to the success Wii had as opposed to the PS3. more social than core. but it will probably have a larger impact than Sony's VR. however, that shouldn't really matter to us yet anyway because we don't care about social stuff.
