    Gamespy closing down

Gamespy services are to be shut at the end of May this year. Gamespy provides online service for a large amount of games on PC and consoles, to name a few...

    Battlefield 2
    BF 2142
    Bad company 2
    Halo
    Unreal Tournament(s)
COD 1 2 (although it doesn't say it on my DVD case)

    http://www.poweredbygamespy.com/pricing/

Effective January 1st, 2013, GameSpy has ceased to make its software available for Licensing.
Effective May 31, 2014, GameSpy will cease providing all hosted services for all games still using GameSpy.
If you have any questions about how this impacts your favorite title please contact the game’s publisher for more information.

    Thanks for a great ride!

    Its usually about money.
they have slowly been winding down things since 2012 I think, but now this is the final nail in the coffin.

I used the gamespy arcade client about 10 years ago as a server browser to search for Half life and Counter strike servers, but when Steam released in 2003 I had no real need for it since Steam has its own server browser.

Yeah some old games I had used to install the software for it and it would still work for MP modes

Same, I remember it being a weird niche thing a good five years ago, so assumed it had disappeared by now anyway.

good, trim that fat. we need newer talent and well the industry is changing anyway. no one needs gamespy when they have their own setup.

Alot of devs/publishers are migrating their games to Steamworks on Steam.

I had to have it installed years ago, too. But I could never remember passwords/usernames etc, so I've probably got about 5 accounts there. After having uninstalled it YEARS ago, I'd forgotten all about it. Last year I installed a game (can't remember which one) and it asked me to set up a gamespy account. I installed it, but promptly deleted it. I much prefer Steam's way of doing MP.
