    Cable Tv is Dying

    Source: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/0...?ir=Technology

Cable companies, you've been put on notice.

Cord cutting -- ditching your steep monthly cable or satellite bill and instead watching video online -- is on the rise, according to a new report from Experian Marketing Services.

In fact, some young adults may never even pay for cable TV in their lifetimes.

The number of cord-cutters, which Experian considers people with high-speed Internet who've either never subscribed to or stopped subscribing to cable or satellite, has risen from 5.1 million homes to 7.6 million homes, or 44 percent, in just three years.
    Do you have cable tv?

I do. I don't see how people can go without cable.

I am more than happy to just buy dvds and blu rays and watch those in my spare time. In fact I never watch TV unless my girlfriend is over and even then, most of the time we watch movies and anime on DVD/Blu Ray.

Note that streaming services basically don't exist here, but I do like my collection

They just got to move with the times and offer TV shows not just live but when we want to watch them. Even Sky figured this out, I can currently watch all episodes of the wire using Sky's on demand service.

I bet I'm the only one in this thread that claims to have analogue cable! . I keep on that because channel surfing is a lot faster than using digital or satellite TV. I still have no clue why that hasn't been resolved or addressed. Its a deal-breaker. I even tested Fibre-optic digital TV service and it was the same thing for no reason, stupid!!

Even though I have the ability to completely replace the cable service I have online with countless options, its not the same to me for some reason and I went 2 months before without TV but just computer streaming of channels; it wasn't a replacement. I can't describe the feeling but its like being cut-off or something. I don't like using the computer for everything because a change in setting or delivery is good. Its harder to get the same flow of channels.

I don't use my cable that much but then again I hardly watch tv now, I get bored easily and it feels like I could be doing something more stimulating. Also a lot of programs piss me off now, all I ever see now are people living their lives like an open book, generic talent shows, people buying storage lockers or cutting down trees n ****.

Yeah, I TV has become too weak now. I despise reality shows. I give no ****s about your life and how you find it hard to wear Louis or your D&G bag to the Oscars. Or whether you should sleep on 10 racks or a million dollars. Do you. Get off my TV! Bring back shows like "Family Matters", The Cosby's. You know? **** that could actually make these kids not stupid? That's why when I do turn on my Directv (Which is rarely) I got 3 channels. Food Network, ESPN News (lol, I know, they're frauds) and NFL Network. Everything else is dead to me.

You can throw an AMC in there once in again if they're showing Scarface, The Godfather and the like. lol

Thanks to satellite television. I'm able to watch any thing. Even though I don't watch television unless there's a good show; an old cartoon, sports, or a classic or new movie I'd like to watch.

The internet has pretty much killed TV for me. Subscribed to 30 channels on Youtube (GameGrumps and JonTronShow, to name a few) while Netflix has some old favorites like The X-Files. News and weather updates can also be read online. Fringe was pretty awesome but also the last truly great TV show I'd tune into once a week to watch.

Direct Tv in every room in the house. Whenever it's off everyone in the house complains, whenever it's on everyone complains why are they spending money on it.

I do have cable TV! I couldn't live without it. I need my Discovery Channel and National Geographic!
Plus we get Film 1 (on demand) for free with our subscription, and that always seems to have great movies on it.

Cable TV would be much better for me it was more accessible in terms of channels from all over the world, without paying the ridiculous premium for it. Hell, if I could get an app on the PS3 to stream to my HDTV with a ****load of international channels and even some independent channels that market to a niche audience, I would support cable TV.

I really hoping your joking with this one. You can get more than 6 TV channels over air now let alone any type of cable service...

Not really. I don't really know how many channels it gets anymore. Before they took it away and brought it back I got about 6 channels so that's all I remember maybe it was where I was located...

I wouldn't say it's dying. It's just that the methods of watching video are diversifying. Any smart cable company has already expanded to get their content on every platform they can.
