Can you define what the right track is?

Our education still sucks and is financially bloated compared to other modern nations. Companies are running the nation because our Government sold us out, we're progressively heading towards becoming a police state as the rich become richer and the poor become poorer, and our freedoms are being eroded while the American people sit around and watch TV.

Yep, that pretty well sums it up. So the short answer is no.

these facts are not true... Because we do not know the actually true facts

the U.S is not controlled by the people any more and if it was, it would not be in the forever future path it is on... The U.S will fail as the number one powerful country in the world

To being a third world country it is now for the poor half off the country... The true test is the turn away from all out war and killing off home and abroad innocent people

The U.S is a failing state and will always be behind everyone else in the world

If you are talking about the education system, its not better. Its a joke.

I know first hand some of the failures of public education. Kids that should still be in high school through failing, but were somehow allowed to pass through. The whole system, and how kids are taught these days is a failure.

Probably because the system we use to educate people was devised over a hundred years ago for the purpose to prepare young people to work with machines and in factories, not to actually develop critical thinking, teach important logic, or give them the opportunity to succeed in modern society. It spawned as a result between intelligent minds wanting to offer a system of education to the masses while compromising with the corporate masters at the time to provide a working class for the industrialized age.

The whole system needs to be thrown out and devised anew by people who actually understand the way the human brain adapts and the way people act (sociologists, psychologists, educators, philosophers, and other scientists). Some of the polices employed by most schools in many grades are directly anti-intellectualism. Ask anyone why they don't read -- it's always because reading is, "boring, uninteresting, and a chore." Ask them why they think that, and bet on them answering that forced reading in school sucked ass.

Kids in Japan don't go to school on Saturday? Some have additional tutoring lessons, but that's not common. I believe it used to be a common thing across all Japan, but that ended in 2002.

Even then, I don't think they should. People need days off to relax and actually enjoy their lives, especially their youth.

Absolutely not. It is already showing in some countries that if you work less, you work more efficiently. Making more work and possibly giving even more stress for the kids is not a wise way to go.

Given how disturbingly expensive life has gotten for the 'average' citizen of the United States, combined with (relatively) easy access to loans with high interest rates and the real wage stagnation of the past few decades- No. We are not on the 'right track' because an uproarious bunch of assclowns run our country.

Throw them out on the streets, lock them up- hell execute them, I don't care.

But until we flush the sewage from the system our nation will only ever be slowly going down hill.

Americans already have summer school, lol, whats up with that? If American students went to school on saturday it would just cause more drop outs.
America needs better schooling from books that weren't written in the 70's.
You need intelligent teaching with newage methods and selective schooling for slower kids not lowering the system so everyone can pass.

Oh and the metric system wouldn't hurt

Summer school is to either get ahead or catch up, it's not a set thing. The books get updated nearly every year. Only major fault I would say our schooling has, is they expect everyone to learn at a similar pace, but even then you can opt out and get put in a higher class or get extra help.

I guess you could say we're "on track" BUT:

    • Savings Accounts Interest rates are still VERY low
    • Even though unemployment went down, there aren't enough jobs
    • We got obamacare, yet do you see anyone truly happy with the options available?

I know this is an old thread, but I just want to throw in my 2 cents since I just graduated high school a couple months ago.

    - Regarding unemployment, I'll quote the article.
"Economists also caution not to read too much into just one month of data. The big picture remains the same."

    - The only reason all those kids are going into college is because they're being pressured and/or threatened to do it, otherwise they'll live the life a drug addict who blows for smack, or they'll barely get by in life. Not to mention they blindly walk into student financial aid without thinking about what the hell they're actually doing.

-80% of kids are passing because it's becoming more common for students to not even be allowed to fail. Case in point: Child left behind. Not only that, but depending on where you are, teacher's wages can be dependant on the pass/fail ratio. When I was in school, teachers were practically kissing our ass to try and just do the assignments because they know if administration doesn't like what they see... They'll either get lower wages or shown the door. Then there's the whole Common Core bull$@#&, which is a total joke no matter how you try to spin it.

Take it from me, if someone fails in high school, they're most likely either taking semesters off from school for fun or they go to school and just don't do the busy work.

That isn't universal. That depends on the school. It's either Friday or Saturday. In middle school, tests don't really matter except for the entrance exams into high school... and Japanese parents generally send their kids to Jukus... which are basically extra preparatory private schools to prepare their kids for the high school entrance exams. Their education system is quite a bit different than ours and they hold a higher reverence for their education than we do, imo. Our education system is in the crapper.
"The biggest adversary in our life is ourselves. We are what we are, in a sense, because of the dominating thoughts we allow to gather in our head. All concepts of self-improvement, all actions and paths we take, relate solely to our abstract image of ourselves. Life is limited only by how we really see ourselves and feel about our being. A great deal of pure self-knowledge and inner understanding allows us to lay an all-important foundation for the structure of our life from which we can perceive and take the right avenues.
