What if Sega released a new Dreamcast with HDMI?

    Here is my question.

If Sega released a new Dreamcast with HDMI and built-in upscaler, would you buy it? Lets say the Dreamcast also comes with 20 or so games pre-installed. And still plays the disc based games. Would you buy it?

Now lets say the console will cost $200, would you still buy it?

I personally would be all over this. I love my Dreamcast, and I would love to see Sega release a new model with upgraded features.

I loved my Dreamcast. So yes I'd be all over it! I think the DC was way too far ahead of its time. Unbelievable bit of kit

20 games, still play all of the games I own on disc, upscaled and 1080p for 150? Hell yes!

I don't think Sega is returning to the hardware business (whether it's releasing a Dreamcast HD or true successor) but, yeah, I'd buy a new Dreamcast. Especially with the 20 pre-installed games.

Why is the Dreamcast so highly regarded? Considering its short lifespan. It's a genuine question, I've never experienced it.

    1. First console to output progressive scanned frames and not interlaced
    2. First console to use VGA mode as opposed to RF
    3. First console to include a built in modem for internet play
    4. First console to have a controller with a modular LCD display interface
    5. First console to have in-game chat
    6. First console to have an MMO

The list is endless. In fact if it wasn't for the Dreamcast then you would not be seeing an XBox right now.

I have my Dreamcast outputting over the euro SCART cable so I can get RGB video and run that to an RGB to HDMI converter with Audio.
I usually let it set to the 800x600 mode and the TV finishes upscaling the way it likes.

    That works fantastic.

No need to wait and wonder.

These days, if SEGA were to try something, it'd be an Android box probably.

No DREAMCAST 2 coming ever, they'd go out of business fast.

For me, it's highly regarded because of its games so, if I were to choose, I would have Sega develop sequels or spiritual successors to their Dreamcast titles. I don't think Sega has the money and resources to develop and market both great hardware and software.

No way, I hate Sega for the Dreamcast.

I know about the others but why are the first two points a big deal?

    Better picture quality.

Progressive is always better than interlaced. 720p is better than 1080i. Same goes for 480p vs 480i.

    I loved my Dreamcast.

This would be amazing, but NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. Even the hardcore Neo Geo following got the re-released console, but it didn't gain any traction. Most Neo Geo gamers preferred the original.

It's because it wasn't a real neo geo it is a emulator and the controller sucks

Hundred percent i would, i still play my DC from time to time, but that's some optimistic hypothesis there. If you have been keeping in touch with sega's financials, you'd know no such thing is going to happen.

It was only ever going to be an emulated, the games come on SD cards yet the actual console used cartridges and huge ones at that.
