The dog should be put down and the cat should be given a medal.

I don't believe the dog should be put down, the cat was great. I just don't understand why people call for the death of an animal because it attacked. If you went out and attacked someone, would you be fine with be called to get killed? The owner should get a fine and warned to keep the dog locked up on a leash and to make sure he walks the dog at least two times a day. Put a mussel of the dog if need be. I knew someone who got their dog put down because he snapped at a child who was annoying it, I mean wtf? We (humans) don't have the right to end any living creatures life, who the fck are we?

Uh, the top species of the planet. The animal capable of higher cognitive thought and rationalizing things like morality and justice for actions? That one.

This dog went up to a random child and attacked him. That means it's prone to unnecessary hostility. What if it had lunged for the child's face or neck, or if the cat wasn't there and the mother/any adults were further away? It pulled the child down and started biting into his leg, enough to cause incisions that required stitches.

These animals went through thousands of years of evolution to be subservient and obedient towards humans. This dog failed in that regard. It's dangerous and needs to be put down.

That's a poor excuse. I and hopefully no one else plans on going out and attacking someone. It was an unprovoked attack. The kid wasn't bothering the dog, didn't even know it was there. The dog could have rabies in which case it does need to be put down.

On a more serious note, it's shame that dog has **** owners and will pay the price.

That's why I prefer cat's over dogs although I am a sucker for a German Shepard or Collie! If that dog did that to my little boy I would chase it down the street, get a hold of it and beat 2 shade of ****ing **** out of it until it was dead!!

Really? Canines are one of the most helpful domesticated animals to humans. There are a few bad eggs of course, but the positives they bring outweigh a lot of other animals. Therapy, recovery, aid, rescue, you name it.

Obviously they're still animals and that has to be taken into consideration.

Yes, that dog may need to be put down. There is a huge difference between a human attacking and a dog attacking. For one thing, humans aren't bred to attack while some dog breeds such as the loosely termed pit bull are actually bred to be attack dogs.

The dog attacked the kid, but the cat came to the rescue. Like the member above me stated, what if the cat hadn't been there? What if no one had been there and the dog KILLED the little boy? And yes, there has been plenty of cases in which the dog kills the toddler or child. Then would you still say the dog does not need to be put down?

Seriously? So, even at birth, a dog should know its place, when it hasn't even fully developed a "conscience" yet? They are trained for a reason. This dog was not trained, nor cared for, by the looks of it. The owner should be the one facing charges for obvious negligence. Yeah we're at the top of the food chain, doesn't mean we have to arrogant ****s about it.

I can ask rhetorical and irrelevant questions too, but I don't see any purpose in it. This dog is clearly not a newborn. I also never mentioned the food chain. I was referring to the intelligence and capabilities of our species. There's hardly any arrogance in acknowledging facts.

You can't assume anything else about the dog or the ways the owners have raised it based on this video. That's ridiculous.

Efforts should be made to at least "correct" the dog, but that's just me. I blame the owners of the dog more then the dog itself.

The video has been taken down. But I'll take a dog over a cat any day. Cats are usually worthless POS.

Yeh the video has been taken down, but saw it by doing a search on Youtube. Looking at the comments, not surprised that people automatically made it into a cat vs dog argument. Personally I like cats more.

Just like consoles it's just preference. I love dogs, my wife loves cats.

I have a police German Shepard, and it's the best dog I've ever had. She's very sweet, and very protective of my wife and child.

Just FYI, the dog was euthanized.
"The biggest adversary in our life is ourselves. We are what we are, in a sense, because of the dominating thoughts we allow to gather in our head. All concepts of self-improvement, all actions and paths we take, relate solely to our abstract image of ourselves. Life is limited only by how we really see ourselves and feel about our being. A great deal of pure self-knowledge and inner understanding allows us to lay an all-important foundation for the structure of our life from which we can perceive and take the right avenues.”
