    Earlier this week, Flying Wild Hog confirmed to GamingBolt that the Xbox One version of Shadow Warrior will run at 900p compared to the PS4 version which will support 1080p resolution. Following up on our conversation with the games Lead Engine Programmer Krzysztof Narkowicz and Michal Szustak,CEO and Game Director, we asked the duo whether DirectX 12 will bring any benefits to games development on Xbox One.
    Krzysztof Narkowicz stated that, Its targeted at lowering draw call overhead on PC, which isnt such a big issue on Xbox One, as some low level access is already available there. On the other hand having one API across multiple platforms decreases development time. This indicates that DX 12 will have more impact on PC compared to the Xbox One but in the end development time [and probably costs] will be brought down across the two platforms.
    The situation can be compared to AMDs Mantle who are also solving the same issue of allowing developers to program PC games close to the metal similar to console games development. There is a reason why Mantle may not be available for PS4 and Xbox One since they already have low level API access.
    We also asked Krzysztof whether they faced any difficulties in porting Shadow Warrior on the Xbox One. The hardware is very similar to PS4. Xbox One is using familiar APIs like DirectX. Adding Xbox One support after having a PS4 version up and running was an easy task, he added.
    Shadow Warrior makes it debut on current generation of consoles this Summer.
    MS never mentioned that this feature will be on Xbox One, but many over zealous people assumed that all the benefit PC is getting will be same for Xbox One.

    But essentially, DX12 benefits mostly PC by giving PC what consoles have. It would not benefit much from having what it already have...

    Yeah ditto the No **** :P

    PC is going to benefit a lot this gen with the consoles being x86, forcing multicore support and big push for efficiency boosts.

    Yup. This is what so many of us have been saying, yet certain members were adamant to say DX12 is secret sauce!!

    This is beyond obvious...if you actually listen to developers talk about Mantle or DX12, they say the same thing OVER AND OVER again...

    Bringing a "console like" API to the PC...consoles already have exceptionally low level API's...

    The Xbone will benefit mostly because it will finally have a mature development environment instead of the hot mess it's tools currently are...

    I can see software optimizing the hardware....But it cant magically make the hardware what it isn't. Bet you dollars to doughnuts Microsoft is working on Xbox One 2.0 because that would be the only way they can compete with Sony.

    not true and they aren't going to do that. they just need to price it right, come out with its own niche of games and services if possible and find a place of its own. it hasn't done that yet but we also thought that the xbox would never find a place.

    The rumbling from these studios is that the new SDK gives them what they wanted in terms of res parity.

    Still cautious but when those first few titles starting hitting res parity (or not) I guess we will know either way.

    Yep. Bottom line is that people need to see it in the game. Too much talk and speculation about what "will be". If X1 can get away from its reputation of constantly being second best then it is going to go a long way in revitalizing the platform.

    res parity is not the only difference between ps4/x1, you have also some graphical effects missing from xb1 titles.

    destiny will hit 1080p@30fps on the xb1 but what will it cut (tone down)? AA?

    More demanding games will still be 900p on the x1 even with the 10% gain...the Witcher 3

    CD Projekt RED has found a way to somehow please both the expanded audience that it will be courting on consoles with The Witcher 3: Wild World, as well as the traditional PC audience that has traditionally been its fanbase.You see, they confirmed that the console versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt- that is, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions- will be running at a graphical level that is roughly equivalent to High settings on the PC version of the game. However, purely because of semantics, they get to have their cake and eat it too, as they also confirmed that the PC version will have one level beyond high- Ultra settings, which will represent an as yet unseen level of graphical fidelity.
    “But I think it’ll be worth it,” executive producer John Mamais said. “Our ultra is pretty much the peak in games. At least we hope it is. The stuff we’re doing is going to look really amazing.”
    They also confirmed that the PS4 version runs at 1080p resolution and 900p on the Xbox One. However that may change since the game is due in February 2015.
