    XB1 June update (VIDEO)

Microsoft's June update for Xbox One is out now, introducing new features like external storage support and Games With Gold, as well as the ability to use your real name on Xbox Live. To help get you up to speed with the update, Microsoft has published a walkthrough video explaining what's new to the Xbox One with the update and how the new features work in real time.

For Xbox One external storage support, your external drive will need to be USB 3.0 compatible and have 256GB or more free space available on it. When you plug it into the console, the Xbox One will recognize that you've attached an external hard drive, and you'll be asked if you want to format it (you need to). You can also give your device a custom name if you want.

Once you attach an external hard drive to your Xbox One, it will become the default storage device for all new content you download. You can even more your previously downloaded content to your external hard drive if you want, so that you can bring your content to a friend's house. Up to two drives can be attached to the Xbox One at once.

The full video touches on real name support for Xbox Live, new SmartGlass features, and a new auto sign-in feature for Xbox One.

Why would you wanna use your real name on Xbox Live? Also, how can that be a new feature? Lol.

I like the real name feature. I use it on the PS4. I have too many real friends, and I forget who the hell is who.

Sony take note. MS are leaving you standing where console updates are concerned.

Lots of MS updates have included what Sony has already been offering though.

I don't see why Sony needs to take note.

The two main things that they added which Sony does not have are:

    Smart Glass
External Storage (don't get me wrong, this one, is definitely a great addition.)

Most of the features they are allowing with this update should have been there already. Apps like Netflix should have never been behind a paywall. Auto sign-in, why wasn't this there already? Name sharing? Why was it added now?

My main point? I don't see how MS are leaving Sony "standing" here. Not with this update.

They only needed the external storage due to making it extremely hard if not impossible for people to change their internal hard drive.

You can pick it up,take it with you and go over to a friends place, plug it and all your games will play.

Better than waiting for an install I guess.

You can pick it up (ps4), take it with you and go over to a friends place, plug it and all your games will play

Meh if the friend already owns a ps4, just take the console (no wires) and Walla! Same thing, just connect your console with his wires, no love lost

And if you want to play his games?
And yes of course you can do that, but this is easier (provided friend has a console).

the change in MS is immense when it comes to this gen with its updates, obviously it should have started off as good as the 360 on DAY ONE. but they are going far beyond it now.

eh plug the power and hdmi cables back to the other console duh! The same time it would take you to switch profiles and the circle ring on the xb1 to stop spinning

And yes of course you can do that, but this is easier (provided friend has a console).
Nope not easier, basically the same thing. You have to carry something to a friend's house (ext.hdd/ps4), plug in hdd/ps4 and there you have it? It might even take the xb1 longer because the console has to authenticate things.

"Provided friend has the same console"

wha? I don't get it. If he/she doesn't have the same console why are you taking the hdd over there?

Needles to say, external Hdd support is a welcomed addition

Are you seriously advocating hooking up an entire console is as easy as plugging in USB drive?
    Ooookkkkayyyy..........
And wouldn't ya just take your discs? Instead of your entire system?

It is 2 wires for both, neither is easier.

Are you seriously advocating hooking up an entire console is not as easy as plugging in a USB drive? Mynd you do realize that if my friend already has a ps4, and I'm bringing my console over to play, the hdmi and power cable are already plugged in! All I have to do is disconnect it from his console and plug into mine

And wouldn't ya just take your discs? Instead of your entire system?
you gotta be $#@!ting me, what's the whole point of this? Isn't it to play downloadable games instead of installing them again on your friends console?...And even if it's hard copy on the xb1, you still need the disc to authenticate the game in the hdd

You even made that point WTF?!
better than waiting for an install I guess

vs one plug.....nothing gets disconnected, just one plug in.
    So uhh yes.

Seems a tad easier to me...

Well it didn't seem as extreme as taking your whole console to a friends to be honest.

Haven't you heard? Plugging in an hdmi cord and power supply cord is a PITA! You need a DIYS book for dummies to accomplish the task

^^ yep let's forget about those hard drives that has separate power supply

PMSL, and your forgetting about everyone with their consoles in their entrainment cabinets nicley tucked away.
Dude, just give it up, even a two cord HDD is easier than trying to what your advocating.

I'm not saying that doing what your suggesting is so hard, its just not as convenient. I'm sure when Sony add USB HDD support you will find it more conveniant than taking your entire system over to your mates.

Wait we aren't allowed our consoles tucked away under the TV or in a cabinet?
But we are allowed them to be in easy access location where we can swap them in and out willy nilly.

I'm out. Just forget it, here I was thinking I was writing something fairly straight forward, logical and non-controversial, but whatever.

You wont ever get me saying taking an entire console over to a friends place will be as convenient as taking my portable HDD over.

You're not taking your "entire console", Just the box!...you know, that black thing that wires go into? My whole point was that, it is as easy to do so if you really wanted to.

He is basing this off of the xb1 which is huge, I wouldn't want to be caught carrying that around (just the box), but the ps4 and the form factor makes it a little bit easier to do so.

Then he switches gears and brings up people that have there consoles tucked away lol. If I've ever seen a goal post being moved
