Yes, Morpheus will work with both PS4 and PC

For some people who were concerned about Facebooks purchase of Oculus Rift, this might be welcome news.

This is how you get mass market appeal SONY, I hope it is as easy as it sounds as I have a gaming rig and a PS4.
As soon as Facebook bought Oculus it dropped dead. Sad.

If VR does take off....could sony be onto a serious win here?

Edit: They are going to do the same with VR on the PS4 that they did with Blu-ray on PS3. They won the format war the moment the PS3 was released, If they get enough PS4 owners get the morpheus, they could quickly come to control the market.

this is a really good idea. they were never going to get anywhere with just PS4 support. good job with this decision.

Nice! So VR porn is still a possibility! This is a smart move. They can branch a big gap between markets with this tech.

I think this will be a good way for people to affordably bridge the gap to VR gaming. Sony really has a good thing going with this and they are making the right decisions. This seems like a far cry from the closed ecosystem of yesteryear. This will certainly have the effect of making developer support a bit/lot easier.

Great news. Last thing I'd wanna do is drop $200-300 on VR that only works for sony platforms...and watch it not get supported (ie. move). Having it work for the PC platform also opens up their potential for sales numbers outside of the playstation brand.

Now if they were smart they would have released PC drivers for the DS4 before the X1 controller.....but they were too late on that one.

    Thank goodness I can resist.

Well now after hearing this I am in two minds. The Rift has a wider peripheral vision, better head tracking and better eye adjustments however the Morpheus is PS4 and PC compatible with included binaural audio.

    Decisions decisions...

Those differences could be changed before an official release mind

It actually doesn't say that the PM support is for games, just development. Hope it's for actual PC games. Keeping my figners crossed.

Got to try an Oculus Rift devkit (original) the other day and it is very impressive. The first devkit was 720p and it is very noticeable. Looking at the equivalent image on the PC, which was set for 1080p, a lot of sharpness and detail is lost within the Oculus. But the detail retained is still incredible and the stereoscopic 3D puts the movie theater 3D to shame. The movie theater 3D always looks like it is multiple planes overlaid over each other. With the Oculus, all sense of fake 3D is gone. There is a feeling like looking through a glass that had vaseline smeared over it and my understanding is the second devkit eliminates a lot of this by going 1080p. It was amazing how light it was. One glaring problem though. The Oculus uses lens adapters for people with glasses. These are separate and kind of huge, that somehow screws into the lens hole. This was very noticeable because the Morpheus reveal showed that it has a special mechanical slider system on the sides so people can use it with their glasses comfortably. Big plus for Morpheus.

Then, Valve came out with their prototype. Oh, what to say? They got a long ways to go.

The guy that had the dev kit said Sony stole everything from Oculus and they are only being friendly to Facebook and Oculus because Sony is having problems with the Morpheus. I do not make this $#@! up.

The Morpheus is far ahead of both these. The immersion effect can't be described, especially if the person goes "Oh, VR, I have been hearing about that since the 80's". This is totally different. The only way to describe it is that you get the distinct feeling you could easily leave the real world for the VR world. I have tried the old ones that actually used small CRT TV's and this new VR is totally different. There is no eye strain, there is no effort to keep your head up. I expect Morpheus to be a bigger part of Games com than E3 but actual pricing and availability might not be until TGS. It is going to be worth it though.

I am tired of people who dismiss VR because of what we had in the '80s and '90s. The technology was not mature yet.

I REALLY hope Morpheus actually is cross-platform, and not just that it has hooks for UE4 with no way of using it on a PC.

Oh, and that multi-plane 3d thing is from movies that are CONVERTED to 3D rather than 3D native, but VR is going to make old 3D obsolete.
