To be fair, the thumbs down just increases the chance of arguments and animosity. I think that was probably a good decision.

To repeat what others have said ... if you are having personal issues, please report them to staff. If we over-mod ... people get mad. If we under-mod ... people get mad. We're also not omnipotent. If there's issues, please bring them to our attention. Thanks.

It was being heavily abused. I don't think anyone really even noticed ... except the people abusing it.

Lol, that's not the reason activity is poor here.

If every thread was strictly on topic, it'd be boring. Of course there are degrees of 'off topic-ness'.

Why is it? (or is that off topic?)

Forums everywhere are in decline, except for the most popular ones like gaf. Facebook and twitter are the dominant forms of internet communication these days.

Pretty much ... and guest-posting services such as Disqus and LiveFyre, for instance. Those are quite popular.

There's been talks of perhaps incorporating those guest-posting type services into the forums after the initial forum facelift/upgrade. Nothing set in stone right now, though ... but it would most likely increase posting traffic.

Yeah....good point. A lot of newer gaming sites are foregoing forums altogether (like dual shockers) in favor of services like disqus.

If we can make it so folks can log in/register with their twitter, Facebook, whatever then I'm hoping that will bring some more traffic. But that is part of the plan Varsh and I are working on with the new forum software. All in time...

Good idea. Certainly wouldn't lose you any traffic and so it could only improve things. The moderating would perhaps be more burdensome (can you still ban people, prevent spam bots, etc)
