AMAZING BREAKING NEWS: Uncharted 4 E3 trailer is IN GAME, 1080P @ 60fps

    http://gamingbolt.com/uncharted-4s-t...-all-in-engine

"They (Naughty Dog’s Studio Coordinator Rodney Reece and Lead FX Artist Keith Guerrette) confirmed to us that the Uncharted 4 trailer showcased during Sony’s E3 2014 press conference was a part of an actual level in game. Secondly, they also confirmed that the entire trailer was running in real time on the PlayStation 4 and it was all in-engine."

    http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.p...&postcount=265

"No, it is definitely real-time, (as my post yesterday might hint) I had one of their devs explicitly confirm to me yesterday that it is running in real time, on a single PS4 and not pre-recorded.

Beginning with Uncharted 4, all Naughty Dog games will feature completely in engine, real time, 3D cutscenes (if they even stay cutscenes anymore), a huge performance departure from what they used to ship."

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...f-us-at-60-fps

"We've studied the video in a little more depth and have concluded that it's definitely running at native 1080p resolution (as opposed to being rendered at a very high resolution, then scaled down - a process known as super-sampling). Small clipping anomalies, a touch of specular aliasing on Nate's shirt as he sits up, along with some shadow aliasing on his forehead also suggest a real-time render. On the face of it, we're still looking at some pretty incredible anti-aliasing here for a real-time technique on a game running at 60fps, particularly when it comes to the perfect, artefact-free rendering of Nate's hair - but the combination of the low contrast setting, slow camera movement, motion blur and depth of field would work well generally in making aliasing much less of an issue."

I don't think anyone doubts that it's "in-engine", but Naughty Dog's cut-scenes usually look a bit better than the gameplay.

That's what I'm wondering about. The shadows and character models in the previous games, during cutscenes, were higher quality because they could be afforded. In-game when the player is fighting AI and moving around, and the camera is pulled further back, it's not really necessary so the models are slightly lower quality. There's little point in wasting the system resources there.

The environment will definitely look like this though, which is really impressive.

The order and now this. I can't even imagine what they'll do on their 2nd game for the ps4.

Destiny and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is all I need for the rest of the year.

That is usually true of any game. Even so, Naughty Dog's gameplay always looks awesome as well. Looking forward to seeing more.

If I'm not mistaken, they're talking about not using the method that they used last gen for their cutscenes. They used multiple ps3s to render their cutscenes. That's why they're being direct with saying that it's realtime using one ps4. Judging by the order 1886 and how it changes from cutscene to ingame, I don't think anyone here should have too much doubt. ND has a way bigger team than Ready at dawn.

Destiny and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is all I need for the rest of the year.

I'll try not get my hopes up because they say one thing, then in the end they end up downgrading it.

I don't know. Most games' cutscenes seem to look the same as the actual gameplay. Metal Gear Solid 4, God of War, Demons/Dark souls, Gears of War, Halo, Borderlands 1 & 2, Assassins Creed, etc.

The only games that quickly come to mind that do enhance their cutscenes is the Uncharted series and Alan Wake. Uncharted was going for that 'movie in a game' feel so naturally they did whatever they could to make everything look as good as possible, and Alan Wake played itself as a television series. Kinda interesting.

If that is the case then these may actually be real-time to conserve on disc space (as the data for the level already exists). Though video cutscenes always have the benefit of not needing to be loaded. Doesn't really matter either way.

So hard to believe that it's in-game. But it's ND after all. Amazing!

ND own site makes confirmation as well

    http://www.naughtydog.com/site/post/...14_e3_trailer/

"All footage you see in the trailer was captured completely in engine. That’s Nathan Drake rendered in 1080p full glory using the power of our PS4 engine. All footage you see in the trailer was captured completely in engine. We’re targeting 60fps for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and as you can see the visual fidelity for our character models will reach new heights. In fact, thanks to the power of the PS4, right now Drake’s Uncharted 4 model is over double the polygons of Joel from The Last of Us PS3."

Ok so previously ND was using pre rendered cutscenes in their games, but now with Uncharted 4 it is all "in-game". Does that mean that we can expect the gameplay to look as good as the cutscenes? Obviously I don't pay enough attention to this kind of thing.

I think.....should have a knock on effect of taking up less space on the disc. Instead of playing back a 1080p high quality video, all they would need to do is run animation and sound data which takes a lot less space, but more intensive to run. They wouldn't be able to use it to hide loading screens.

From what I have seen the Order does it well enough so why can't ND and this! Can't wait to actually see some gameplay footage from it though to see if what they are saying is true!
