Battlefield 4 launch quality was 'unacceptable,' concedes EA

Electronic Art’s boss Andrew Wilson has admitted that the launch quality of Battlefield 4 was ‘unacceptable’.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Wilson referred to the backlash from Battlefield fans regarding numerous bugs and stability issues that plagued the launch of the fourth numbered title in the popular FPS series.
“For me, the situation we had was unacceptable. For the team it was unacceptable. We have worked tirelessly since then to make sure the gameplay experience got to where it absolutely should have been at launch and we’re focused on that and we continue to deliver value to that player base”.
EA plans to change its processes for testing its Battlefield games in a bid to prevent major launch issues in the future, though Wilson says it won’t stop its Swedish-based DICE studio from pushing boundaries.
“It would be disingenuous for me to sit here and say, ‘we will never have an issue again,’ because that would mean we were never going to push the boundaries again. And I don’t want to be that company,” he added.
“I want to be a company that pushes to lead and innovate and be creative. But you can start to do things that give you a better handle and a better view about what the potential challenges might be.”
The launch issues for Battlefield 4 caused national headlines after a class-action lawsuit was filed against EA in December. The next major Battlefield was recently revealed as Battlefield Hardline, which ditches the traditional war-based theme for a cop vs. robbers style shooter.

i want some sort of compensation for that, not an apology you $#@!ers.

It's almost as if a huge publisher and talented development team should be capable of delivering a polished and functioning product.

They should offer all Battlefield Hardline DLC to be free with the next game as compensation for allowing a bug and glitched filled game to be released!

They allow you to play Titanfall for free this weekend, stop your whining. hehehe.

    It was unacceptable.
I know I have probably said this before but I couldn't play the game when Bought it and Didn't buy it day one, I waited a few months (March) until I thought t would be fixed, but it wasn't, the game literally crashed within 10-15 minutes of me launching it. They released a patch at the beginning of April which did seem to fix my problem of crashing, but I spent 1 whole month unable to play the game properly. And that was 5 months after initial release day.

Thousand of players have been unfairly banned by Punkbuster. I did notice in the text chats loads being banned last night
We are investigating a recent unwarranted PunkBuster ban. We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

Almost everyone will say: buy console that has games that you want, and those who say otherwise are ignorant.

    Playstation Move for the win!

I will. BF4 is my first BF game and I became a fan, it's the only shooter I've liked since so com on the PS2.

I love the beta, they have some bugs to work out, but as long as they fix it I am looking forward to it.

Oh bravo EA. How about not releasing a game in an unacceptable state?

Not my problem....I don't give a $#@! what he says.

Stuck up for BF during BF3 as I thought it was fun and everyone hated on it....then I felt like an ass when they released BF4 in the bull$#@! condition it was in.

He can kiss my ass with his half assed self criticism. As if I'm stupid enough to believe he gives a $#@! anyway.

This is clearly a ploy to gain some "positive" PR. I still don't understand how this was good enough to fly. I'm more disappointed that DICE and EA (I felt, at least) were in an incredible position to win a ton of people over with BF4 and $#@! the bed royally.

Regular as clockwork. Wheel out the apologies when it's time to push the next 'big' game.

Game wasn't ready? Shouldn't have been launched. End of.

Didn't hear a single positive comment about Hardline. Only negative.

The game has been out for six months! These guys tried to deny that the game was broken early on.

If it wasn't for Bioware, I wouldn't buy a damn thing from EA.

Glad I only buy these games for the single player campaign. And I must say that I thought the single player campaign was great!

lol yeah i mean, it's not horrible but compared to "real" single player shooters i've palyed in the past...you know, not the ones where the SP was slapped on...this is about a 4 maybe, out of a 10?

Single player campaign took me roughly 8hrs to get through. Graphics were incredible, and the story was very good. I enjoyed the characters in the game, and overall I had a great time with it.

i'm playing BF4 more often again lately. other than some core design faults, the game boasts a great gameplay and the gun mechanics are the best i have ever seen in any game. that's mostly the reason i keep coming back because i'm always trying to unlock stuff for different weapons and those weapons force me to play a certain way (that i feel the weapon is designed for) and more than not, i find a weapon that i end up finding useful and then i keep it for certain occasions.

it's a lot of fun playing the game that way, i just wish it wasn't about constantly rushing every second.
