    2TB Samsung/Seagate M9T drive working on PS4 with 1.71

I did finally get to trying to install the 2TB Samsung/Seagate drive in the PS4.

NOW it works like they are best friends.

Downloaded 1.71 to a USB stick.
Backed up PS4 to external drive.
    Swapped in the 2TB.
Installed from stick, no issues at all now reading the 2tb hdd like in the past.

Mine is a Day One system that hasn't ever worked with the 2TB Seagate/Samsung Spinpoint M9T 12.5mm hdd.

This is great news for everyone if, as it should be, this works across the board.

I've reloaded everything and watching netflix movies already. No issues with it.
I will update in a few days with reliability report.

Ya know, yes, it will, but I believe this may actually be a 9.5mm now that I look at it. Yeah... advertisement says that. THIN for 2TB. Worked great in the original external enclosure before I tore that open too.

I actually have this same drive in my PS4 and can confirm that it works flawlessly with the 1.71 firmware. I bought the Seagate Backup Slim Plus 2TB STDR2000102 on Amazon since it was cheaper than the standalone drive. There are youtube videos that show how to remove the drive from the enclosure. If you're careful, you can reuse the enclosure for your 500gb PS4 drive that you're swapping out.

Yes, that is exactly what I did, once I heard that drive was in the external 2tb slim model. Sadly, it had to sit on the shelve till SONY learned they needed to enhance their HDD protocol stack to handle some of the new stuff. SONY didn't ever have a 'defect' they just had new hardware and hdd address techniques to address.

And, yes, as I promised, it's running : Flawlessly.
System seems no faster but none slower, and that's fine for the money and size.
You just use a plastic spuger or fingernail to pull up on blue part, basically the lid, and there are about 6 catches maybe that you pull lose from and a little glue, nothing vital.
There is a very fragile board at the interface port converting USB 3.0 to SATA3 and power. You just want to pop the back of the hdd out side by side carefully and pull the drive out backwards away from the USB interface. Then you can remove the interface board gently. Now you have the bare drive.

It's a standard interface so you should keep it in the enclosure and reuse for the 500gb drive or other compatible drive.

Or, toss that drive in your PS3 if you never upgraded that. I have had a 500GB in my PS3 for a long time, never had issues.
