Getting into the market for a new TV

So I'm likely going to be looking to buy a new TV here in the coming months. I'm looking to buy between a 55"-60". Trying to keep my price range to $1000-$1300. Would really rather keep it towards the lower end. I was thinking of looking into 4k but I just don't think its worth investing right now considering as far as I know content is a ways off. It looks fantastic though. Samsung model in best buy made my pants get tighter. But I'm looking into LG, Samsung, Sharp, and to a lesser extent Vizio. Just still not sure about the brand but I'm open to testimonials of any brands. I know many people hate on LG but I've had nothing but great luck with mine with solid pictures. Also not ruling out any brands just what I'm currently looking at.

I'm not sure about 240 hz because it's always just looked to unnatural motion to me. Maybe I will get used to it but it just doesn't look right. So likely looking into 120hz. Unless someone can sway me away from that. So any models anyone would suggest?

Here are a few that caught my eye with the Sharp standing out.

Mostly leaning towards LED but Plasma are well priced. Not sure if burn in is still an issue like years past or colors washing out over time. 3d also doesn't seem like it's going to be doing much in the future so I'm not really that enthused about it, unless its just purely awesome. Also might wait until November and see what kind of deals are coming. But I'll likely get one before then. Thanks in advance for the help.

Does it have that very unnatural motion to it? I think is called the soap opera effect where everything is in super smooth motion to where it doesn't look good.

On some TVs, you can't turn that crap off, so it's best to triple check to see if disabling that effect is an option. I can't stand it either.
"The biggest adversary in our life is ourselves. We are what we are, in a sense, because of the dominating thoughts we allow to gather in our head. All concepts of self-improvement, all actions and paths we take, relate solely to our abstract image of ourselves. Life is limited only by how we really see ourselves and feel about our being. A great deal of pure self-knowledge and inner understanding allows us to lay an all-important foundation for the structure of our life from which we can perceive and take the right avenues.

I'd say if you can afford it go 4K but you'll be restricted to 60Hz. I'm not too sure how TV refresh rates behave though as I know they don't behave in the same way as Monitors.

But definitely go 4K if you have the money for it and if you find a good one. A few Netflix things are in 4K if I remember correctly.

I always have to go to the store and stare at each screen for a while. Last 3 TVs I bought were Samsungs. The picture just looks better to me than other brands.

Getting into the market for a new TV

When I last went to the US I was in a store called Brookstone or something like that and they had a Sony TV playing The Avengers on bluray and it was the best looking picture I've ever seen. It almost looked too good.

I'd love to get a new TV. My 32" Samsung is about 5 years old now and it looks OK until you put it next to newer TVs. But I'm buying a monitor next month and can't justify buying 2 new screens. As much as I wish I could

I have a 55" Samsung 240Hz set, and I had to turn that smooth motion garbage off, it was just was too annoying and it only adds lag...I would make sure you get 120Hz or 240Hz since the Blu-ray movies will take advantage of it (24fps) since it won't have to do the 3:2 pull down, just make sure you get a set that allows you to turn the auto motion portion of the set off, makes a world of different to me, especially in the gaming realm! I would looking a Samsung set, they have great reponse time and if you shop around you can typically grab one for a pretty good deal! Also, if you are wanting to check response times (Lag) on sets you are looking at, check out this website:

It is kind of hit and miss depending on the model, but the database is slowly growing!
