I'm thinking that I'm definitely going to go digital at some point, sooner rather than later. I won't be getting sports games digital though as when the next one comes its rare I go back to the previous.

I've got a digital Battlefield 4, only because it was cheaper doing the upgrade thing rather than buying it outright. Rest of the digital games are indies, as I'm wary of space. Plus I prefer disc-based media. Looks nice, has resell value, (not that I sell games often) and all that. I don't think digital will catch on with me much.

While I get the whole resale value thing, hell I've only got 2 PS4 games after selling the others, you have to be damn quick when selling the games on now. Infamous, killzone, bf4, AC IV, thief, murder soul suspect + more have all been below 20 recently for a retail copy so the resale would be terrible at like 8 trade no doubt.
Can't believe KZ is down to 11.99 (pre owned).

Ah I wouldn't trade any in, that's practically daylight robbery. I'd put them up on auction sites and the like, and encourage collection. :3

Digital wins hands down. No more plastic madness and annoying disc swapping. Also more environmentally friendly.

I can change games within seconds, which is amazing.

That's what converted me to digital. Never swapping my games over again.

Retail all the way for console until its no longer a choice, or until Digital pricing is more acceptable. I dislike taking a chance on a game at full price day one, with no ability to unload it if I dislike it.

On PC being digital only, I don't take chances on games because of that fact until they drop to ridiculously low prices. Console digital pricing has yet to drop as much or as quickly as it does on PC.

i'm thinking DD will never be cheaper than it is now. maybe it will be for indies but not higher production games (that we know as retail games right now).

however we might see better sales, more controlled too in the future...especially if physical is out or just about.

so there's hope but they will always want to skim off the top. i guess that also pays for their high budgets.

but at the same time, i also see a future of very cheap indie games, where they try to gain revenues by quantity.

likely a lot more addons and transaction services included. so you buy a cheap starter pack and then pay your way in.

I'd say they should be less. I'd love it if it were 39.99 or less for digital games brand new on launch. I still think even at retail the price hike this gen in Europe is a joke. Last gen I was paying 39.99 or less for new games, this gen the cheapest is like 49.99 and they go to like 54.99 or more in some cases.

Why games on PS Store are so expensive I will never understand. Im not going to pay 55 for a game when i could nip down to the shop and pick it up for 15 less.

It all comes down to pricing once the pricing is equal i'll go digital

They have a monopoly over you in the digital market, the can charge whatever they want especially when you don't have much of a choice

Mostly retail simply because of the price benefit. If DD is ever the same price as retail (or better) then I'll be DD all the way.

Retail. Always. No reason to buy digitally. I like to sell my games once I am completely done with them and they are great to look at on a shelf.

Retail for life. If i didn't have the game case i'd feel like a part of my experience was missing. That's the way it's always been, so why change now? Plus i like being able to borrow and trade my games in. I don't see the benefits of digital besides less clutter. I can be a lazy person but i don't mind swapping my discs lol. Those blue cases are beautiful. Going full digital would be like buying a painting and leaving it at the museum.

    Hello,
I was thinking digital for the below reason, someone tell me if this thinking is not valid.

Example:I have a relative with a PS4. I purchase digital version of Watch Dogs. We split the cost of the digital game and of PS+. I make my PS4 the main one, he logs in with my PS+ account (since you can share on 2 PS4's). Therefore we both can play our digital library at half the cost. Am I missing something in that scenario? I do know we can't play online vs each other, but thought from what I read that the above is possible and legal.

I only buy digital copies for my ps vita, it is easier and then I don't need to carry around different discs for it when I travel. Other than that I buy games for ps4 on discs. Once I've finished a game I don't bother to play it again, most games in my opinion don't have that replay value games seemed to have when I was younger.. either the games are getting crappier, or I'm just getting grumpier

I only use digital on my PC because it's cheaper - as soon as I have a steady job I'm going back to physical format. Consoles will always be physical format for me. If the service that provides the games goes down - how are you going to redownload them?

At least if I own the physical copy I can play it now, or in a decade or two.

How are game sizes on the PS4 compared to PS3?

I've gone digital on PS3 for the most recent games, but once I get to PS4 I'm thinking of going back to discs. Not just because of HDD space but also because of data caps on my internet.

    Not to mention prices.

it varies considerably. Largest is about 40GB

Here's a link to all the game sizes so far: https://www.gamepointsnow.com/blog/p...install-sizes/

Thanks for the link, though there seemed to be an issue with the sorting for me and missing some games. I ended up just going to the PS Store to compare some.

    Watch_Dogs: 4.5GB larger on PS4
AC IV: 9.8GB larger on PS4
Ghosts Gold Edition: 21GB larger on PS4
    Battlefield 4: 25GB larger on PS4

So yeah, definitely some variation. Granted I probably won't go after games like BF4 or Ghosts, that shows how big the difference can be, not to mention just how large of downloads there can be. And we're not even a year into it's life. I think since we can't backup downloads like we can on Steam, that's confirmed disc based gaming for me.
