when i say CPU is also important, i don't mean it is more important, i mean that if i have a weak CPU, it's a bottleneck, i do understand that CPUs aren't needed for gaming as much as people think. i have never thought about upgrading my CPU in the past. they've always been decent.
CPU bottleneck is very easy to find out in games.
Reduce resolution to 640x480 and if your framerate doesn't go up, you have it.

GPU physics are currently used only for visual effects like wind blowing leafs or hair, not physics affecting gameplay.
PhysX actually has a proper CPU physics side which is used by lot of games for gameplay etc physics.

For upgrading CPU I recommend choosing Intels Tock CPUs.
Intel has Tock-Tick upgrade cycle in which Tock means new architecture and Tick is speedbump.
For next Tock (Skylake) one can expect 512bit AVX for very nice boost in vector calculations when used. (and with gather/scatter instructions.)
Large L4 cache to help with memory bandwidth etc.

When tock comes things like changes to AVX and such are not widely used, but when the CPU starts to be old more of the truly CPU intensive tasks will use the features.
This makes it more future proof than just buying the tick with higher clocks which initially might seem faster in some cases.

(Note, I'm not expert on CPUs or motherboards, but the choice of going i7 920 was quite good as it's still decent CPU ~6 years after release.)

Well now that the new RAM, motherboards and processors are finally released I can finally get a better estimate of where my cash is going to go. Just for the main 3 essentials it will be:
    CPU: Intel i7 5960X (8 core) / i7 5930K (6 core) ~760 / ~430
GPU: TITAN Black Edition 6144MB ~730
    PSU: Seasonic X-Series 850w ~156
    RAM: 2x Crucial Ballistix Sport 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C16 2400MHz Quad Channel Kit ~720
    SSD: 2x Samsung 1TB SSD 840 EVO ~660
    Case: Corsair Carbide 540 ~100
Mobo: Asus X99-E WS (I'm guess the cost here) ~500
    Optical: Samsung SE-506CB/RSBD External BluRay-RW ~60
Price: ~3700 including fans. If I wait for another 6 months (January/February) I can see the cost of most of this drop by at least another 500 or more, especially the DDR4, SSD, and motherboard cost.

This is the new Asus motherboard that is highly in-depth from Lauran:

A friend of mine spent that on a PC about 10 years ago AMD FX57 loads of RAMs (for the time) 6 Raptors in RAID, SLI 7800GTX 512MB Full aluminium LianLi case, red lighting, fans, the works, was super fast.

What makes her even hotter is the fact that she knows probably more than most enthusiasts and tech geeks when it comes to this stuff too.

    Not arf!
Just watched a few of her vids and I like the look of the Func Keyboard, I am in need of new one, but wanted one without extra macro buttons on the left side that is backlit with wrist rest and the Func is at a nice affordable price.
I had one of their 1030 mouse mats for years, it was great, I wore it out so had to buy new one about a year or 2 ago, but still use their cable clip (which I screwed tot he desk) to keep the mouse cable from snagging

Preparing for a new PC build

I think my friend has a Func keyboard. Pretty tidy bit of kit. I hope you're going mechanical?

I have reds. They're nice but when you first get them they are really sensitive and you will have a few typos as the keys respond to the lightest of touches. I've never tried the other switches. You can buy a little set of keys on eBay for about 10 that has one of each switch to feel the difference. Or just go to your local PC shop. Seems to be loads up north

I had a cherry-red mechanical keyboard and had to take it back. The super soft keys were driving me nuts.

That, and I waited for the sexiest keyboard ever to release. Not much longer now.

Well I think the K95 is and the RGB version is out at the end of this month I think. Hopefully PC World gets them in because that's where I got my store credit from when taking back my old K95.

She's from Tek Syndicate isn't she? They're both very good looking but Lauren is still the ultimate geek.

If I can get the rest of the stuff down enough then yes it will be an 8-core. The CPU is my last resort for a downgrade.

I'm very fond of corsair things. My PSU, Case, RAM, and speakers are all Corsair but I decided to go for a Ducky keyboard. I'm a sucker for plain looking things. And I love the ducky lighting

I never cared for the additional buttons, so the K70 is good enough for me. I just want those sexy lights lighting up my room.

Over the years I have become a corsair fan too, their SP fans I really do like, the cases have changed their style in such a way that I'm really loving them, and the RAM I have always preferred, their keyboards have gone from ok to astounding in such a short space of time though! PSU wise I will always stick to Seasonic.

I forgot my fans are also corsair ones. It's just a brand that screams quality. And customer service. My SP2500 speakers died and they were 8 months out of warranty. Corsair replaced them on a next say service without a fuss. I'm definitely a loyal Corsair customer.

Not used any Corsair fans but the Noctua fans I have on my Heatsink are super quiet, I cant hear them on low speed which is all I ever use, the colour is a bit $#@!, but they have released some new ones that are black so I might get a couple some day for the front and back.
Another thing is they provide free upgrade kits to use your heat sink on newly released and updated CPU sockets.

Varsh, what do you do for having a computer like that?

I've always figured that going med-high to highend, you end up upgraded both of those at the same exact time. So going for a medium to medium-high might just be cheaper, as to the parts, I don't know but for what your building for, you may know better.

Nevermind, I just happened to read game developer, so....................................Might as well go into freakin beast mode right? just go nuts. LOL
