DualShock 'Power Pak' Now Available For PS4

    source

Claims to double battery life while the controller's in use. By Katie WilliamsGaming accessories manufacturer Nyko has announced that its snap-on rechargeable Power Pak battery is now available for the PS4's DualShock 4 controllers.

The battery pack connects via the controller's micro USB port and claims to double the standard battery capacity of the DualShock.
"Itís lightweight and does not impede gameplay or ergonomics, enabling users to extend their gaming sessions," a Nyko rep promises.
The Power Pak is designed to add extra power while the controller's in use, but it is also compatible with Nyko's Charge Base, a dock that can store and charge two PS4 controllers when not in use. It's available in video game accessories stories for a recommended retail price of $20.
Nyko produces Power Paks for other consoles too - we were especially impressed by its Power Pak and Charge Base for the 3DS. The DualShock 4 Power Pak is now available at Amazon and GameStop.

Not a bad idea to be fair, have noticed that the battery life is remarkably longer since you have been able to dim the light bar but this could also come in handy!

I saw that yesterday on IGN and thought, that it might be nice.

That said, I'm curious as to how useful many of us would find it.

Personally, I keep my controller topped of, and I've got a 2.1A charger next to my couch, plus a second controller if for some reason I really needed to have something else on the charger and couldn't get my arse off the couch to go plug it into one of my other charging options in the same room.

Rechargeable power pack for a controller that already has a rechargeable battery.

Am I the only one that seems think this is redundant?

I think the intent is to be redundant, just not in the way you intend Plenty of people out there with Mophie packs for their cell phones and tablets.

I've got a spare battery and external battery pack for my cell phone, I just don't feel that I personally need it for my DS4.

If I didn't have a charger always at me disposal right there by my couch and a spare controller to boot, I might be interested in getting one. And still may buy one at $9.99 if I ever see one at that price, just to give it a try. Might be nice to keep it off the unit and charged up, and only snap it on if I'm running low on juice.

I think it is a smart idea...even with being able to dim the lightbar, the battery life on the DS4 controller is still pretty bad.

With the light on full bright it was 8-10hrs on average. I haven't checked it after dimming the light (ability added via on of the recent updates), but I've heard reports that it's improved it, but I'd guess not be a lot.

Eh, that's not so bad. Just charge it after 2-3 play sessions.

Yeah, I don't have an issue with it personally. I typically just plug it up after every play so it's got a full charge when I pick it up.

Only reason I could see to get something like this is if you only have one or two controllers, or you routinely play very long sessions of something with local multiplayer that uses all your controllers. I generally have three controllers, 1 for use, 2 on charge, cycled through as needed. I haven't really seen much in the way on the couch multiplayer sessions since say the N64 and Goldeneye, so that's not much of an issue.

Put my two controllers on to their recharge station at the end of each session. Always have enough battery.

I like this. Good idea. I'll get this most likely, but I'll wait on the reviews.

nyko's accessories are generally good, but this thing shouldn't even be required in the first place. sony should put out a fw update to improve the battery life on the controller.

Just picked one up on Saturday.Only thing I'm not digging about it so far is it seems to interfere with where my index fingers naturally want to rest on the triggers. Probably just a personal preference , but I found myself detaching it when I was playing Destiny this weekend. Feels like it almost doubles the weight of the controller as well. Not really something that bothers me , but it may bother others.

sucks if it needs a controller revision, the batt life on the current ds4's is pretty shoddy, if they can improve upon it with a fw update they should.

there's not much they can do. we already can turn off the sound that comes out from the front. we can't turn off the light but dimming it while helps a bit, it doesn't resolve the issue. and i don't even use vibraton.

there's not much they can do. people will just need to wait for the new revisions. i'm getting mine replaced so i'll check if the battery is better.
