    Until Dawn Will Have Hundreds of Endings

    Sounds like my sort of game.
    I wonder how picking up a book can have a butterfly effect.

    During a behind-closed-doors event at Gamescom, Supermassive Games announced that their horror game coming exclusively to PlayStation 4, Until Dawn, will have “thousands of branches” and “hundreds of endings”.

    Until Dawn was designed so any character can die, and any character can survive. Much like Heavy Rain, there is no game over screen. If you play as Billy (a character name I made up for this example) and you trip on your shoelaces face first into broken glass and die, you simply take control of one of the seven other teens. Pete Samuels and Will Byles, the two developers giving the presentation, also stated that anything from picking up a book to opening the wrong door can drastically change the ending of the game. They call this the Butterfly Effect, and a small butterfly will appear on the top right of your screen during one of these story changing decisions.

    Having no end screen and permanent death will surly increase the suspense when playing the game, because one false move could be the end of Billy. Samuels described one situation where you have decide on shooting your friend in the head. Perhaps picking up a weapon that would later prove to be useless would make it unavailable for another player who would desperately need it in that spot later?

    Two players will likely end up seeing different scenes as the game progresses, and while I’m guessing most endings are just a slight variation of another ending (ex. Billy and Kate survive while Jimmy kills himself versus Billy and Kate survive while the killer murders Jimmy), there seems like there is enough possibilities to make a second and third play through completely different.

    Because butterfly effect means that literally ANYTHING can change the course of history. Even something as small as you moving your hand to the right instead of the left. (I as a practicing muslim though, don't believe in this).

    NOW this game has my interesting! Heavy Rain was one of my favorite games and it sounds like this game borrows a lot of Heavy Rain This game will totally be worth it's money because of the replay value.

    It's not a motion only game is it? Wasn't this supposed to be a move only title when it was announced for PS3?

    i think they've ditched that idea now

    originally unveiled as Move game on PlayStation 3, Until Dawn has now ditched the Move controller and the PS3 for Sony's shiny new Dualshock 4 and PS4.

    Nice. I hope those endings will be good and thought provoking. I don't want them to be meaningless just because of the developers wanted a nice marketing quote.
