Great, the one channel you wouldn't really want to show the races because of that reason

Yeah they are the least favourite candidate but it should be interesting. I think the second or third (if it makes it that far) season will be when it really gets into its stride. I really like the city aspect of the tracks.

Have a look at the first F-E start. It's weird without hearing all the noise we are used to.

don't worry, it won't last long.

sure, there will be some initial interest, just to see what the fuss is about, and after that, it will slowly fizzle out, and end up going the same way A1GP did.

    Fornula E Thread

    All good man

So... Anyone going to take a stab in the dark and claim a team? I liked Jamie Alguersuari so I'm going to take a stab at him

So Virgin racing for me. I'll take Renault as a back up

The virgin team look like they have the best driver line-up. Bird was/is the merc F1 test driver wasn't he?

Im gunna go with Daniel Abt. His profile shows him with a red bull cap, so im gunna assume he's part of the young driver program, and that program tend to produce pretty decent young drivers

Yeah I believe he still is. Virgin look quite competent! Haha good observation. However red bull are also known to dump their drivers very quickly!

Like what Surebrec said, its the A1GP series all over again. Would be better as a support race for F1 or something as I don't think its got the strength to go on its own.

On the good side there's some well known drivers taking part...

they have a weird pit-stop system....did i just see the drivers switch an entire car? o_O

Those battery packs must be heavy. The cars don't look particularly lively. Kinda boring, exciting tech though. 250 odd HP from the power unit for 15 laps @ ~70 miles? Pretty decent.

But that noise....the F1 sounds funny with the lower pitch, this sounds like you're watching supped up bumper cars

Should've been posting in this thread. Yeah. They switch the entire carta threaten tyres and a battery pack.

I'm not liking it, the sound is pretty lame as you said. But man are they slow! And the circuit is boring.

I wanted it to do well, would've meant good open wheel racing each week. But meh. Not something i will be going out my way for.

Probably should wait and see how the races go before completely writing it off but from the sounds of it we are already half way there lol

    Anyway back onto F1...........

likewise, streaming it isn't ideal, so i probably wont be going out of my way to sit at my PC for its duration.

I thought they'd be faster. I imagine the point of diminishing returns of weight vs power happens very quickly with current tech.

    Slower with buckets of understeer.

    SO, F1 it is then?

That was a huge crash. They really really really need to get rid of these sausage curbs, it's getting ridiculous now and it's happening across most categories. Cars are meant to stay on the road not try and do an F-Zero style overtake!

As for the racing, well it was all very close together which was nice but that track layout was utter $#@!e I mean seriously look at it:

And how long is that pitlane?! At least Malaysia looks more promising of a layout:

As for the technology, this formula will start off slow as battery powered cars are still relatively new, however over time if they start to relax the rules on power units then expect to see a massive improvement in both the battery life and the speed of the cars. It's early days yet and still only the first year. We'll see in its second season what the difference will be.

You can check all of the races on the official website here: http://www.fiaformulae.com/en/live-streaming.aspx

Monaco was last weekend and it was a pretty decent race, some really close racing too. Next weekend is the German GP (Berlin). You can catch it on ITV4:

    Code:
    STARTS ENDS ACTIVITY
     08:15 09:00 PRACTICE 1
     10:30 11:00 PRACTICE 2
     12:00 12:55 QUALIFYING
     15:30 17:30 RACE
I have to say that I think there's going to be privateers enter F-E soon as the racing is much closer and actually good fun to watch at times, they need to sort out the tracks but that will happen over time. Also I'd imagine that the speed of the cars will improve over time too. For a first season it's pretty good.
