For the entire life span of Video Games there has been Shoot 'Em Ups or Shmups as some people call them. This genre is near and dear to my heart because of the amazing games that I could spend hours at a time playing, for example Asteroids, Einhander, Space Invaders, PixleJunk Shooter and Super Stardust just to name a very select few.
We have now come to the 8th generation of game consoles and Shoot 'Em Ups are still going so strong, very strong.
Oh Resogun how I love you so. Resogun as most of you know was a PS4 launch title and it remains to be one of the systems best if not the best game on it. It was fun, addicting, quick, simple, deep, creative, pretty and Badass! All of which are everything a Shoot 'Em Up should be.
PixleJunk Shooter Ultimate
Slick, stylish and smart are just some of the adjectives I could use to describe this game. It's a different kind of Shoot 'Em Up, while most Shoot 'Em Ups are loud, brash and quick but PJ:S requires you to think, look and explore. The shooting is still really great though. Q-Games at its best.
This is an upcoming PS4 game but from previews and impressions this game looks and sounds like it should be on everybody's radar. Artistically it looks like destiny but gameplay wise it's hard, challenging, deep and fun. And it's made by the same awesome folks who made Magika, so expect quirkyness and creativity.
Made by the awesome guys who made Resogun, Super Stardust, Dead Nation and Outland this game is upcoming and looks awesome. Basically this game looks like Dead Nation without slow movement and then filled with all the Resogun goodness.
Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition
Dead Nation is challenging and addicting. With all sorts of modes and great multiplayer this game is great value for money and even better if you got it for free on PS+.
Now for this game I found it very hard to explain it to you guys, so for this upcoming PS4 game I went to the help of PSBlog to explain it so here's their explanation."Hollowpoint is a highly tactical, four player co-operative action game featuring a blend of fast paced 2D platform shooter gameplay directional aiming with precision based 3D shooter gameplay pin point reticle aiming". Now the point I got a bit lost at was pin point reticle aiming, the reason for this was that we haven't really seen full gameplay so I can only assume it's like Counterspy aiming or it could mean Dead Nation style but who knows, it looks like a really unique, fun and interesting game. It gives me Shadow Complex and XCOM vibe and that's a good sign!
The remastered Crimsonland for PS4 is as true to the original game as it is to the genre. It's content packed(however a bit repetitive) with its 60 stage campaign and survival mode and still keeps it fun thanks to its really solid gameplay. Graphics aren't great however that's to be expected from a remaster of a quite old game and yes sometimes it gets repetitive but hopefully the great gameplay and fun campaign and survival mode will keep you going.
Not A Hero, Broforce and Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number
When sony announced its partnership with Devolver at the 2014 E3 Playstation Conference they also announced three creative and awesome games. Two of which were Shoot 'Em Ups, Broforce and Not a Hero. Both games looks similar at first but then go whole new levels of crazy. Not A Hero was quick, stylish, 2D Max Payne and looks so awesome while Broforce is a quick, fast, loud, contra and expendables game, and yes it's as Badass as games can get. Seriously these games are so great and once they both come out they deserve everyone's attention.
Now onto Hotline Miami 2. If you've played the first HM(which is coming to PS4 too) you know the appeal. Swift, quick, loud, gore filled and mind bending are words I could use to describe these games. And the music is on a whole other level. It's so good. HM 2 is set to have Dual Wielding and many more cool new features. This is another one of Devolvers awesome games but this was announced for PS4 long before Broforce and Not A Hero. I should also mention it's upcoming.
Mercenary Kings is the awesome Monster Hunter and Metal Slug hybrid and it is as addicting as it sounds. The gameplay is great. It's fluid and fast. It has great enemy variety. Music and Graphics are also great too. But beware it is Monster Hunter at heart so be ready to use the same map for a while.
This upcoming PS4 game is a Rougelike Shoot 'Em Up and it looks great! It plays like a really deep and quick asteroids mixed with Rougelike level and game design and an anime art style. I can't wait!
Super Stardust Ultra
This was just announced and its comming out early 2015 and for just $12.99! This is a synopsis from PSBlog: This timeless shoot em up has you pilot a start fighter in the depths of space, defending planets against the onslaught of enemy attacks in the midst of a deadly meteor storm. Your mission is simple: use split second timing and pure arcade skill to make every shot count and destroy everything in your path.
Super Stardust Ultra, has an array of new planets, glorious visual enhancements, and includes no less than nine different game modes, including new modes and established favorites from the series and its various add-ons.

This thread will hopefully be updated but if you feel like there's games that should be added please PM me or just write down below about it. Hope this goes well(my first big thread). Have fun! Give all your love to HellsJester as he quite literally contributes to this thread more than me. All of the above that don't have write ups are either coming or unavailable due to my lack of knowledge on said game.

Does Mercenary Kings count? Its a 2d platformer, but there is a hell of a lot of shooting. Love that game. I haven't got into Resogun yet, but I'm planning on getting into it & Strider here real soon.

Hollowpoint looked really good at gamescom.
You may want to clean up the OP a little bit
My suggestion is
Oh and here is the proper way to play Broforce
Warning contains "bad" language

Astebreed is coming to PS4. Apparently it was announced in June but i didnt hear about it until i saw Sonys TGS list . Its a Japanese Indie title but it does have a english version with achievements on PC/Steam already so it would be kinda weird if it didnt get localized on the PS4
Found a article for Astebreed and it looks like Revolver 360 is also coming to PS4. I was reading the TGS list and Revolver 360 on PS4 is called Revolver360 Re:actor
