If I were Sony, I'd be banging on Valves door to get HL2VR as a complimentary game with a PM purchase. The game in itself is fun (even more so in VR), the VR implementation is already really good and is probably going to be standard settings, and it can easily be run at 1080p, high FPS.

Sony tends to be lazy when it comes to supporting peripherals. we'll see, maybe they have changed their ways but until i see some good use to this VR, i don't know.

i'm still bummed that Oculus is superior in some ways, but i also don't want to pay too much for it. so i guess morpheus is where i'll be for the moment...also the fact that oculus won't be out on the PS4. kinda makes it difficult for me to get it.

I don't know why you're disappointed with Project Morpheus if you've never tried it. Oculus Rift running a decade-old game (Half-Life 2) is not that impressive.

VR is such a major step forward for games it's almost unfair, Sony says

Oculus rift isn't 'running' anything. That's just showing software guys have created in their spare time.

It's like saying a monitor can't play high quality games

speaking only from the hardware point of view, i've read somewhere that oculus has a better resolution or something of that sort.

I don't think it's fair to make a comparison right now. In the article that I posted, Sony plan to make more revisions before they're ready to release it.

I honestly think that would be too scary for most people. I know I wouldn't play it. The regular version of the game already made me feel paranoid enough. The "sense of presence" that VR provides would make it unbearable for me. lol

But on the other hand, people might be intrigued by the challenge.

trust me, i hope so but the challenge isn't technology, the challenge is price. sony probably wants it to be available to all people.

Currently both are 1080p (Oculus DK2), I know the Oculus runs at 75Hz on the latest dev kit, but we don't know 100% what the final Oculus Rift resolution is going to be, it might end up being 1440p and I know they mentioned that future revisions will hopefully be 4k. As for Project Morpheus, I would expect to see the final revision being 1080p @ 60Hz or 75Hz, I don't see them going any higher on resolution this gen since it would severely tax the PS4 going beyond 1080p. I am hoping by the time PS5 rolls around 4k will be the gold standard!

Last I heard that was in the timeline. At launch was to focus on PS4 and games to drive initial sales and later bring it to PC and also get non-games working with it. eg Virtual travelling.

Judging by the leap from sub 720p to sub 1080p, it might be a while till we see 4k gaming. 2 generations down the line maybe? :

if 4K TVs are popular by next-gen, we will see 4K games. but we will also see a reduction in graphics quality (which we won't be able to tell because we don't know what 1440p games were going to look like). in other words, the jump we saw from 720p to 1080p (or well, we still haven't seen that completely yet), will not see the same jump from 1080p to 4K.

I think you've answered your own question.. And sure, we'll see upscaled 4k games and 4k indie games much sooner. But the natural progression in games would probably be something inbetween 1080 and 4k.

yeah, maybe 6-7 years from now sooner lol. and i hope it takes as long as possible, i'm not buying a 4K TV anytime soon and i don't want those resources to be wasted unless they absolutely can't use it anywhere else.

i don't think personally any games out now would work well, i mean they'll be fun to mess around with but i think they should build games from the scratch for it or at least think of it while making the game.

I've never played it but for some reason a game like MAG comes to mind. Or maybe Driveclub and a new Gran Turismo.

i would absolutely hate to play a shooter with it, maybe for fun but not for competition. maybe something like a scary game or a game that is single player.

There seem to plenty of scary games on Oculus Rift though. I don't think variety would hurt. But yeah, I'm more of a single-player gamer anyway so I'd prefer playing something at my own pace. I actually think it would be really cool to explore an alien mothership or some Deus Ex-inspired game world.
