    USB Ports dead

    Hey guys,

yesterday the USB ports on my PS4 stopped working. Not matter what i connect nothing seems to work. Did anyone on here have the same problem and can give me some advice on what to do now?
And yes I need these Ports because my headset only works via USB.

Guess I will have to send my Playstation in for repair
It's about time my PS4, go make me proud !

Guess that may be the case pal. Since it's still under warranty though i'd get it done legitimatly. Where did you get your PS4? Can you take it back to a store? I recently returned my worn DS4 controller to Game (where i bought my PS4) and they swapped it for new straight away, no hassles!

My USB's are fine btw good luck!

    Gaming since 1982. Cheers Clive.

Have you tried restoring the factory settings of the console?

Have you tested all the USB slots? Each with different devices? If the PS4 has ports on the back then try those too.

Did they stop working after an update? Did the power turn off or surge at any point? Did you plug in a device and then they broke?

Called Sony yet? If neither of your USB ports are working (there's only the two on the front to address Nerevar's point) and a factory reset isn't working, then it's time to Contact Sony about getting a replacement.

I'd suspect something like a ribbon cable inside came loose. That said, since it's under warranty I wouldn't open it up as that would void the warranty.

Can't be a ribbon cable, the USB ports are hard wired to the motherboard:

Sounds like he just needs a new console!

If this came after a system update it may be a software issue. Sony's firmware updates were a little... derpy... last generation with the PS3. Duffman's suggestion might fix it. It'd be worth trying before sending it off. Just make sure you back up your saves, And1.

Yeah, I didn't bother to go look at the tear down pics, which I haven't looked at in almost a year.

It's definitely time to call Sony.

It has to be because of a system update or something. USB ports wouldn't just stop working for no reason. Try resetting the PS4 to factory settings, after backing up your saves of course.

If the factory reset works let us know, I am quite curious myself!

I don't remember my PS3 having this many hardware problems. Wtf Sony, did I make a bad investment in buying your precious PS4? I paid for a $#@!ing functioning console, not a paperweight.

What exactly are you b!tching about?

One report of USB failure, a small percentage of day one failures on PS4s (similar small percentage of day one failures as what PS3 had.)

The biggest complaint so far has been the peeling of the 'grippy rubber' on the Analog sticks, which I'm think it's likely from contaminates on the sticks before the rubber is applied (i.e. small amounts of oil from the skin of people handling the sticks before dipping them, or even dust in the environment, making for a less than optimal adhesion.

I don't hear large complaints about Optical Disc Drive failures which was common on PS3 for units produced in the first couple years. No YLOD which was happening by this same time on PS3s.

Sorry, but so far the PS4 seems pretty damn rock solid. That said, it's electronics, you're going to have a certain small percentage of fallout no matter how good you are in design and production.

Decided not to do the factory reset as my PS4 seems to have some other flaws as well. Just gonna ring the customer service and ask them to pick it up to get a newer one.

    Thx anyways guys
