I'm a bit late but I began watching it recently and I'm really enjoying it. It's not as good as the original series but it stands on its own well enough. Just started season 3.

Thread: Anyone watching Legend of Korra?
Yeah it's awesome! I agree that it has not been as good as A:TLA but you haven't finished S3 yet, S3 imo brings it to level par with the original. The fight scenes, characters, music and story are all fantastic but I think it's the World-Building that impresses me most. Such a great world with a rich back story.
I think LOK could easily have been better that TLA if the show-runners knew from the beginning how many seasons they'd have. They started out thinking they'd only have one single season and that led to a good but rushed first season. S2 and 3 have been better because they had more time to plan it out. Really looking forward to Season 4!
I definitely like the world building in LoK. But I feel the core issue with it is the writing. There's a lot of contrivances to move the story when it could have been done much more naturally. Every conflict happens in the same way.
New location > New characters > > Politics > Korra is tricked> "What have I done?" > The good guys face the bad guys > Korra gets away/bad guys get defeated > Repeat
It's very samey and it feels like Korra never wises up to her always being manipulated. She also has a tendency to get angry and escalate the story towards problem. You could say this is just her character but it feels like lazy writing to me. The main storylines generally end with a convenient deus ex machina.
I'm still enjoying it though. Halfway into S3 so far. $#@! yeah metal bending!
Yeah ^ That's what I mean by the lack of time/planning thing.
Where as TLA had a 3 season overall story line with different bad guys and road blocks along the way, LOK has 3 separate stand alone story lines that are not quite as linked. It's a shame but still both are amazing shows in the end.
