I remember reading this a few days ago and was also quite pleased to find out they'll be able to keep the prices down by using smartphone like components.

I suppose tweaks to mobile LCD/Oled screens and the accelerometers/gyroscopes would really reduce potential costs of new components. If you are the manufacturer and designer then it is possible to tweak these to get better response times where needed. These components usually don't need much accuracy or latency when it is talking to an App but that doesn't mean the components can't' be tweaked to be useful for the VR situations.

how does this compare to oculus?

The specifications include a 90 degree field of view, HDMI and USB connections, a resolution of 1080 x 960 for each eye (equal to 1920 x 1080), an accelerometer, a gyroscope and a five-inch LCD panel.

Is that the Morpheus or Rift. As the rifts specs have gone up since the crescent bay prototype last week.

Its a bit behind the oculus in some specs, but there might just have to be some concessions to get this cheap enough and so the PS4 can run it fast enough...

ok let me be more specific lol, what resolution does rift have? i don't wanna feel like i'm getting a lame deal...not that i'd get rift because that's not out for consoles but just wanna know where i'd stand. also of course the price matters and i could see some weak specs due to that. but i wanna know where they are making concessions.

as of now, i care about resolution obviously.

They're not going to be making games at a higher resolution than 1080p so you should be content with Morpheus having 1080p. Even if Rift does have a much better resolution I've yet to see a game that looks good because they all look awful, by awful I mean games that would run on a 256mb video card.

so far i like the way that looks better. i like morpheus too because it looks futuristic but this one looks more functional...also seems sturdier.

1440p is pretty good, is that also half and half in each eye like the morpheus?

good point, i guess i was thinking that the resolution they had was half in one eye and the other half in the other...i was thinking that wasn't true 1080p. can we confirm if that will be true 1080p or will it be like that trick KZ dev did with the online part. i mean, it doesn't really matter much but just curious. it would be awesome if it was identical to the regular 1080p image.

Does this mean that it will release in 2015?

would be smart if they released this year but you know how that goes. probably 2015.

i'm still not sold on this thing yet, i'm worried about support. sony always acts like they're serious but then they aren't. not getting this on launch unless i see ample support and future development announced.

By the time they launch this, a PS5 would be here.

According to the latest report I read on it, it is 1080p.
    http://www.theverge.com/2014/3/21/55...on-oculus-rift

I mean who would mind a QHD screen on their virtual headset? I know I wouldn't but since I know that would drive the development costs higher it would mean expensive for us, and since it has been confirmed the max output for PS4 will always be 1080p there's no need for higher resolution. Heck XB1 is still struggling to run full 1080p games (latest COD AW) so I doubt even the PS4 could pull QHD.

I don't think people should be expecting equivalent tech specs to the OR on morpheus. Sony definitely has to cut some corners to keep the price tag down and that the ps4 can handle the device. OR will have better tech but the morpheus should be more than decent. I don't know about the release though, if it was almost complete, why did sony keep it away from tgs? I'm still guessing late 2015.

Morpheus was on the showfloor at TGS.

I don't think we will see anything spectacular until it picks up a significant install base and then the real deal will appear on PS5 with morpheus 2

It's a gamble right now that I will partake in but I'm not expecting to be blown away.

Was it present at the tgs showfloor to try out, well sony didn't talk about it in their keynotes from what i remember. how it fares after release will depend on the games and price and how well sony supports it. With such a device, i'd agree that it would be a gamble being an early adopter, a wait n watch approach for some months might be better.

I'll be waiting on this one. After Move and 3D I don't expect this to take off either.
