    F1: Best Driver of 2014?

    Cast your votes now

For me it was Riccardo, Hamilton fully deserved the title but Daniel outshone Vettel and was the only person other than a Mercedes driver to win races so he just gets it over Lewis in my view!

Logic dictates it should be Hamilton but I'd have to say Ricciardo also. He made Vettel look Completely Average all season. Lets revisit my favourite quote:

"When he will have a car like the others, if he wins, he will have a great recognition and be one of the legends in F1.

When one day he has a car like the others and he is fourth, fifth, seventh, these four titles will be bad news for him because people will take these four titles even in a worse manner than they are doing now."
As always Alonso is always there or thereabouts.

    Honourable mentions go to:

Massa: The only driver other than Lewis and Nico to get a P1 all year
Bottas: He was flying at some races this year. That last attempt at a flying lap at Sochi was fantastic
Bianchi: Scoring Marussia's first points at Monaco - get well soon buddy!
Maldonado: Not causing too many incidents this year.

Hang your head in shame awards:

Rosberg: Failing to overtake your team-mate at any point during the season. Dubious actions at Spa and Canada
Raikonen: Getting absolutely panned by Alonso. Losing to Alonso is no shame but the way he did it was unacceptable for a WDC
Sauber: Failing to score a point the entire year with more funds than Murassia and Caterham along with a relatively decent history in the sport
Caterham: For their treating of Kobayashi and constantly selling their seats. Good riddance.
Bernie: Thinking double points was a good idea.
Mclaren: The way the handled their driver announcement

Lewis still deserves my driver of the year. Despite being cheated against throughout the season and having bad luck always going his way, he still manages to thrash his team mate as well as keep his head held up high. This season I feel was the defining moment of why Lewis is a proper WDC, he never loses a fight against his team mate on track, he always overtakes cleanly, and if he's in the lead he puts the hammer down.

Bottas would have been my favourite driver all year but Lewis just had a perfect season. Bottas and a very very close 3rd with Ricciardo were the standouts this year, no question. Both of these drivers are going to be WDCs and if not then it will be purely out of being in the wrong team at the wrong time.

Pffft riccardio ONLY won races due yo the mercs $#@!ing up. He didnt beat them on track due to skill or speed. Yes he showed up Vettel but that wasnt hard as Webber was a joke

Obv it goes to the WDC chamption and BBC SPOTY winner, Lewis.

Thanks to Final for the sick sig!

Alonso. No question. There isnt another driver who could have put that dumpster fire of a car as high up as he did week in and week out.
Im not at all convinced that Hamilton was the best driver last season. Put him in any other car and he'd struggle to crack the top 10. The Merc was just that good.

Difficult because there were a few drivers which had good seasons, But Ricciardo has my vote. Drove some good races this season and his overtakes were brilliant to watch, probably the best overtaker on the grid.

Bianchi was good too, consistently fastest out the new teams and usually by a good margin. Bottas and Massa were solid too.

As for Hamilton and Rosberg, When Vettel was winning it was deemed to be the car that was superior rather than him (Personally i disagree), and its the same with Hamilton and Rosberg. They literally just had to keep the car on the road the whole season

Thing is with Vettel, he had a race winning car this year and couldn't get a race win yet his team-mate did. It goes back to what Alonso said. When he has a car like the rest of the field and can win, then he deserves to be called legendary. But if he has a car like the rest of the field and performs averagely then it looks really bad.

Going to be interesting to see how well he does against Kimi next season.

Riccardo was the ONLY driver to overtake the Mercedes and win races though, yes the Mercedes had problems but he was the only driver to catch and overtake them when no one else could, that my friend is skill whether you agree or not!

He overtook them when they had issues. Not via skill or anything like that. He overtook them when they were stricken!!

He is a $#@!ing bad man of an overtaker tho. I'll give him that. Proper lil honey badger!

Actually he won Hungary fair and square, he had a better strategy and the Mercs decided to stay out on very old tyres which is why they couldn't get past Alonso. Would've been great to see Alonso win that race for Ferrari but oh well.

Ermmmmm no. Didn't one of the Mercedes start form the pit lane then they $#@!ed up tyre strategy? He overtook cars on faster tyres. Yes he still made the overtakes but this was still handed to him. So no. Not fair and square.

Rosberg started from the pitlane but he was miles faster than Ricciardo and everyone else, he just couldn't get past Hamilton nor Alonso. Ricciardo felt that he was being held up behind everyone with 10 laps to go and thought "eff it", came in for a new set of tyres, caught them all up as their tyres were then pretty old and he simply drove through them.

Either way the case in point still stands, Ricciardo won it fair and square.

Exactly. Just as with Hamilton fans who think Lewis is the best ever, I honestly think that Vettel's success was more the car than it was the driver. Im just waiting for him to start whining about how the Ferrari sucks too.

Not sure you can call it, "skill" when the Merc's were limping to the finish. What about all those other races when both cars were healthy and the Mercs won by a minute or more? I actually like Ricciardo a lot and he's one of my fav drivers but I cant call him the best...at least not yet. I do think he will win a WDC at some point in the time though.

Should be interesting as neither were at one with the 2014 car. Probably more so Raikkonen than Vettel

Hamilton has already won in cars which aren't cars that could win the WCC.

For what it's worth I think the best driver currently on the grid is Alonso. He is a beast
