    Quick reply annoyance

    Hi,

Hopefully this is an easy fix, it is really annoying. Say you are replying to a topic and you are using quick reply. You type your message, then press tab. But for some reason the next element on the webpage is somewhere near the top. On most message boards it goes right to the submit button.

    This fixable?

    Thanks
    RishiD

Why do you feel the need to press tab? Why don't you just press the submit button? It takes half a second.

I agree it doesn't really matter, I mean what if you hit it by accident? that wouldn't be cool.

Some people prefer to use the keyboard, as it's faster than moving your hand to and from the mouse. It's pretty easy to fix the tab order. You can either change the order in the HTML, or use tabindex.
An alternative would be to use ALT+S for submit, as many forums do.

It is faster...by about a second or two. There's 86,400 seconds in a day. I don't think it's going to set you back from your daily schedule.

its not about taking an extra second but about convinience. the forums that i'm apart of that have quick reply are much easier to use and i most a lot more in there. evrything is already on that page for you to see and refer back to and its juss a lot more convinient.

DINAMO788 was pretty much spot on. Quick Reply is supposed to be a convenience, but it's an inconvenient "convenience".
Those seconds do add up, and can make a difference.

I can't type well, the submit button is much easier... my sister on the other hand (who does not have an account here) types 120 WPM finds it easier to use the keys. I do not find pressing the submit button hard (arge, moving my mouse 2cm ), its actually a convinience. How would you like to type your own binary?

[LIVE] Manhunt 2 Banned in UK

    Manhunt 2 Banned in UK

The British Board of Film Classification today refused to give Manhunt 2 an official game rating. David Cooke The BBFC director said issuing a certificate for the game "would involve a range of unjustifiable harm risks, to both adults and minors, within the terms of the Video Recordings Act, and accordingly that its availability, even if statutorily confined to adults, would be unacceptable to the public".

Normally he said, the board would "try to consider cuts or, in the case of games, modifications which remove the material that contravenes the BBFC's guidelines." but because the level of violence is so deeply entrenched throughout the game the BBFC couldn't recommend cuts that would allow Manhunt 2 a UK release.

“Manhunt 2 is distinguishable from recent high-end video games by its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone in an overall game context which constantly encourages visceral killing with exceptionally little alleviation or distancing. There is sustained and cumulative casual sadism in the way in which these killings are committed, and encouraged, in the game." said Cooke.

Carmaggedon was the only other videogame to be refused classification by the BBFC and even this ban was overturned in 1997 after publisher SCi and developer Stainless Games appealed against the decision and an agreement was met by replacing the humans [which could be run over] - with zombies to make the experience less disturbing to others.
What is surprising about this ban is that the original Manhunt game - which was also deeply controversial sparking much controversy and which also featured brutal killings and extreme violence - was given an 18 certificate by the BBFC in 2003.

David Cooke countered this point remarking; "The game's unrelenting focus on stalking and brutal slaying and the sheer lack of alternative pleasures on offer to the gamer, together with the different overall narrative context, contribute towards differentiating this submission from the original Manhunt game".

Rockstar are still able to make changes and resubmit it or appeal the ruling so the fate of this game in the UK could still be up in the air. The game is still scheduled to be released on July 10th in North America and July 13th elsewhere.

Meanwhile we gleefully await Jack Thompson's seal of approval.

I published this article on V2 with some screen caps taken from the Rockstar website but I'm starting to have second thoughts. They are quite provocative and it might offend younger users or more probably their parents (don't want any emails from angry rents!). What does everyone else think? Leave them in or take them out?

Seb, most games now a days are made for at least 13 years and up. There is practically no reason why anyone younger is coming to this site because we dont cover Nintendo games or the little kid games that will eventually appear on the PS3 like they did the PS2. Plus they arent bad at all. The videos for Unreal Tournament 3 are worse then those.

Oh that's another thing - do we have an age limit for the videos? I mean everyone just lies about their age regardless, but it's probably good to have one.

I think in the caption to the article/media that we should put a disclaimer stating that some content isnt suitable for younger audiences.

Matt, I'd kindly ask you to not belittle Nintendo, or basically cast disdain over so called 'kiddy games'.

It sounds like pure fanboy speech to say 'gaytendo just make teh kiddy games' or whatever. A UK Nintendo magazine is the only UK source to have actually played the full UK version of Manhunt 2. UK.

Also, when saying 'bah littly kiddy games', your basically including awesome PS3 games like LittleBigPlanet and the revamped Lego Star Wars.

Either way, theres nothing really gruesome in those shots really. Couple of gimp masks and a raised axe? Think we can get away with it...

We will age limit videos once we get a flash player going in the near future. It's more of a case of protecting ourselves from a legal perspective rather than protecting others - as has been pointed out everyone just lies anyway.
