Report: PS4 Slim to be released in addition to PlayStation Neo

Sony will release a PlayStation 4 Slim in addition to the previously-announced PlayStation Neo, according to a Tweet by a reporter for The Wall Street Journal.

The Slim edition of Sony’s flagship console is reportedly due to surface by the time the Tokyo Game Show rolls around in September. Note that analysts have said that this is in addition to the Neo, so it’s not simply another name for the upcoming PS4 revamp.

This is the first we’ve heard about a PS4 Slim, and Sony has yet to make any official announcement regarding a sleeker, more cost efficient version of its latest gaming platform.

It would make sense for Sony to release PS4 Slim but why wait to announce it? Xbox One S will be released in early August and Tokyo Game Show is in the middle of September.

    Unpossible.

This would blow away lethal's "theory" that the X1 S competes with the PS4 Neo and not the regular PS4.

Unless this slim version has 4K capabilities, the X1 S isn't really competing with it.

PS4 is already pretty slim. Hope they don't go cheap on the casing like they did the PS3 super slim.

Highly unlikely that it will not have a hdmi 2.0 port and therefore support 4k.

This is the 1st PS4 design revision, not the 2nd. So I wouldn't expect that.

Is this the same way the Xbox 360 was not competing with the ps3 because it did not have a Blu Ray player?

They've made no inkling that it will support 4K. Would be cool, though.

There is no good reason why the PS4 slim would not support 4k output.

Unless sony was stupid and wanted to have anything to do with 4k be exclusive to the neo, which seems rather unlikely.

Also considering that ps4 slime rumors just popped up, it is rather foolish to assume the ps4 slim will have nothing to do with 4k.

I agree, but that doesn't mean it will happen. We'll need to wait and see.

The reason would be that it's more expensive. And why wouldn't 4K to exclusive to the Neo? That's the things' biggest selling point, after all. I think the unlikely scenario is the one you're spinning there.

There have been other PS4 slim rumors floating about for pretty much as long as the Neo rumors have been. And the Neo rumors turned out to be true, so...

Because the competition is offering it for less.

No "quality" rumors for the slim.
