Being from NY myself I would say that everyone is pretty cool there, if you are nice to people there they will be nice back, if you go there copping an attitude then they will be a**holes right back at ya. They just don't put up with everyone sh*t, so just be cool to everyone and they will be cool back...

Heh funny, Im doing the same thing, In fact im flying this saturday.
Im from South America, so the nearest US entryport is Miami. Sure, I have other reasons to go to the US (family), but getting a PS3 at launch has now become a priority!

I was going to fly to the US on the 15 but ended up having some problems at work so i wont be able to take vacations until next year, so now i am screwed up and will have to deal with the fact of not getting a ps3 until the consoles shortage is finally over. Sucks to be me.

Well, I would be worried about you coming all the way to the US only to have to go back empty handed to your friends... >.<

You may also get stuck paying duty on that system on your way back, costing even more.

Hehe, join the queue - http://www.ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=28235 - I've had my tickets booked for a month or so now =)
I recommend you *don't* go to New York. I personally don't think there's any way there's a proportional increase in the # of consoles there to match the greater population; when small towns and cities of 20-50,000 have Best Buys, Targets, Wal-Marts etc. all stocking the console, the shops in New York won't have enough to match the much greater demand - 1.5mil people in Manhattan alone. Just my two penneth though. Plus - staying *anywhere* outside of New York will be much cheaper, and you'll definitely have to stay several nights - flying out for only a day or two is normally v. expensive.

Just to warn u the ps3 from NA probably wont work with PAL TVs and games because of the different frequencies used over there....but i could be wrong if sony has somehow added a feature to switch between PAL and NTSC outputs but i highly doubt it and have not heard anything like it.

If you're going to fly here, make sure you will be here by Monday so you can camp out EXTREMELY early.

One other tip - do your research as thoroughly as you can. Circuit City isn't doing midnight launches across all their stores, nor is each store getting 100. Only *six* stores fall into that category.
I took things to an uber-geek level - I made a map of Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, some of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, mapped out population density on top and then plotted the location of every Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, Wal-Mart et al onto it, and decided the best place to camp. If you're committing such a large amount of time and money, the last thing you want to do is come back empty handed; it's a much bigger commitment than for most Americans who can drive 10/20 minutes to the nearest store. Don't plan on just heading straight into NYC 24 hours in advance and banking on getting a console - it's a risky strategy...[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Altho PAL and NTSC are not compatable with eachother, HDTV is universal. If you buy an american/japanese console you may need to just go High definition.
Keeping in mind ive heard rumours that japanese consoles wont play american games etc due to the regions. But then i did hear that the consoles are supposed to be region free.... its a gutsy move, id just wait till you find out from someone else after launch and buy one on ebay, save the travel troubles

U go man!
U Crazy! Sony rules! Yeah!

I wouldn't. The PS3 wouldn't be able to play Pal Blu-Ray movies (and maybe DVD movies for that matter to). Games are region free (meaning the console) so I have heard.
Would suck spending $600 on a PS3 then loosing a feature because you bought it abroad and have to import all your movies.
Also most airports won't know what a PS3 is and probably think it's a bomb.

You're insane dude.
Ticket Cost
Hotel (well, maybe...
)
Food
Taxes
Car/Transporation Costs
Other costs (ie. personal toilettries, entertainment, etc.)
It's not THAT big of a deal waiting a couple of more months.
BTW: Apparently camping has already begun.

That is hardcore my European friend, if you decide to make the journy best of luck...
But I would read up about NY City first!

I'd find a less populated location if I were in your position. My town has between 60,000 to 100,000 residents and it only took me 3 hours of camping to be 4th in line at Toys R Us. Of course, units are also limited in these areas. The U.S. is full of moderately populated towns with lots of places to shop. That would probably be your best bet. Find a nice little town of 50,000 or so with 2-3 Walmarts. Walmart is everywhere in the U.S.(Especially the South), and it's not rare for a small town to have multiple stores; this works nicely since Walmart gauranteed at least 10 units to each store.
Of course, I've also never been to New York so that might be a fun trip regardless of PS3...
