Retail stores buy consoles from MS. Thus, whatever MS ships, is sold, from Microsofts perspective.

Whether or not the retail store then resells is up to them.

Of course they arent precise, no one claims they are.

The creators simply average out the monthly sales, and create an algorythm to suit.

The X360's figures will be 'more' accurate since its been out longer.

240,000 PS3 consoles sold, and over 20,000 of them are on eBay right now!

X360s in my area aren't sitting stale on the shelves, it's just that there's many more available, AND a lot of people already have one!

It will be very interesting to see if Sony replenishes retail channels by Xmas. If not, could be a VERY good holiday for MS.

The Xbox 360 Full and Bass models both sold out, i had months of people coming into my shop asking for eather of them just to get one, my boss was selling them for £800+ each, lol :P

He sold a Sony 50" LCD for i think it was 7K to a Japanese guy and while at the countre he said i have the 360 and the guy bought that for £1500.00 this is 4 days after release

They should not only compare the total amount of units sold in its lifetime but also the average amount of consoles sold per day.

PS3 & Wii will benefit from this average because of their recent launch, but after several weeks or months this comparison should become more fair to all 3 of the consoles.

Its not like you have to look at it. And it also shows the next gen console market share. PS3 already has a few mm.

I also think those numbers should have been higher on both sides. Last time I was checking that site for X360 there were much lower as they should have been.

Last I checked the Ps2 was still beating X360 in console sales o_0

If we need to prove that site credible, then compare their number with the official statement once it gets released on Monday (probably, Ps3s are now sold out in Japan and America) and see how accurate they really are.

And the updates are most probably scripts doing the calculations on provided averages.
