    Xbox 360: $299, According to Wal-Mart

According to some chatty employees of U.S. retail giant Wal-Mart, the Xbox 360 will go on sale at a price of $299.99, and the games will cost $59.99.

The Wal-Mart sources are not named, so these prices should be taken with a healthy doubt until Microsoft make their official announcement. However, the price is around about what was expected after J Allard said the console would cost "in the neighborhood" of $300 back in May:

Naturally a smidgeon of sceptism should be maintained until Microsoft makes an official announcement, however the $299.99 price point hardly appears to be out of the bounds of possibility and suggests a pound/dollar equation when Microsoft's next-gen format is launched upon UK shores later in the month. As widely believed games appear to be slightly more expensive then many would hope with the likes of Perfect Dark Zero and Project Gotham Racing 3 marked at $59.99.
these are good news..not only the price of the console maintained as the price of the games stick to near $60!!

    AWESOME console price!!!!!!

    LAME game price!!!!!

IF all next gen games are going to cost 60 dollars expect more people to begin applying MOD chips into there consoles and buying pirated games. I know that it is the wrong thing to do but games are just getting to expensive. Hell $50 is too damn expensive. I geuss i'm going to really cut down on buying games.

To tell you the truth, I'd rather have the 360 at 250 bucks and the games at 50 than the other way around but it's a good price for the console I guess.

I quite didn't under stand what your trying to say? Do you mean u'd rather have the console at 350? if thats what you meant i'm with you. This gen i actually plan on buying a shit load of games for the 360. Atleast ten games at launch but if this $60 price tag remains at launch day, I'll just buy a couple then save the rest for the PS3(yea i know the PS3 will be more expensive and the games will cost just as much as the 360 games but the PS3 has the games i want so don't start flaming)

I think 300 dollars is a good launch price, and I hope they stick to it. It's real appealing at that price, but as for the games 60 dollars is understandable, I still think I'm probably going to wait for price reductions in games before I buy them.

If they stick to that price they will haev the same problem they ahd on XBOX. They will lose money will every concole sold. But if they use that game price they will make their money back faster. It's a good marketing plan in the short-run but I'm not sure how it will end up doing in the long run.

MS isn't the one setting the game prices for the system. They also have not increased their royalty, thus they haven't directly impacted game price at all.

That price is what is being set by most of the publishers to help cover the extra development costs.

That’s exactly the price I was expecting, not bad.

It’s understandable to raise the price of games due to the increasing development costs but nonetheless it still hurts, $50 games were almost too much for me but o well that’s why we have the bargain bin. Personally I buy 1-2 good games to keep me busy and wait for the price drops (yes im cheap)

Thank you America for your pricing, if the Xbox 360 in America is $299.99 and the games are $60, then the UK will be around £170 for the console and £30-£50 which is really cheap for the UK.

Well first of all, Siren is absolutely right. Also, if the publishers are doing this with Xbox 360, it is more than likely going to happen with the Playstation 3, and Nintendo Revolution also. As for losing money on every console sold... well that has been a norm for a while. Microsoft will lose ~$76 per console at $299.99 while all indications point to Sony losing ~$195 per console if they sell it at that price. Even if Sony sells the system for $399.99 they will lose ~$95 per system, which is STILL more than Microsoft. If anything, Microsoft is in a better position.

you guys gotta realize that games have been in the ball park of $50 for at least 2 decades despite inflation and all kinds of things that have impacted the global economy.

$60 isnt anything new for games either. Some N64 games went for $70 back in the late 90s. Yes people complained then but those games still sold fairly well despite cheaper alternatives that were found on the Playstation.

This generation though all publishers are looking to raise the price of games just to make development costs. They hire more people and spend more hours per game than they ever have before.

I think a small price increase has been long overdue

He's absolutley right. And really $10 more per game really isn't that much. Say you were going to buy 5 games at launch when they were at $50. They would be $250. But now they raise the price $10 and you only buy 3 games because you think the price is "so much higher". That's $180. If you bought those same 5 games at $60 it would only be $300. Only $50 more. Really not that much if you think about it.

If the game is really good, I'll pay as much as $75 for it...but it HAS to be good! For instance I won't mind slapping down the $60 bucks for both PD and Oblivion, but I'll def stop making impulse purchases or, "purchases of faith" as I like to call them. Besides, there seem* to be enough AAA titles coming in the first year to warrant the extra $10.

I thought it was usual that European gamers pay more even though it may not be fare, didn't the playstation get up to around 400 pounds at some point? I thought I recall somebody taking about the horrid prices in the UK.

    wow

if you buy a system and a game what is the total

    console 300
    +
    game 60
    =
    360

this might be coinscidense but it may just be the reason the false rumor of 300 was started
