    8:30 HD-DVD Video

    Youtube Video

This is a pretty informative HD-DVD review, the guy goes through it and shows it off, plus answers some of questions which we'd like to know concerning the unit, discusses the positives and negatives around the add-on.

The HD-DVD videos are rampant but this Video from You tube from what I've found has not been posted and it answers questions which we all thought were answered in earlier Threads, all in all Mael don't delete this one please until you're sure it's been posted before.

    Nice review here, good find.

I actually managed to finally see one in person yesterday, smaller than I though it would be, it just looks big on camera I've notice. When I get time (and permission) I'll post of the interview we did with MS about it.

A good review, but I have to be honest - I keep refering to the Xbox 360 as a "Frankenstein" console, and this just further re-enfornces that feeling. I don't mean that in derogatory sense, but with the optional (and I stress/acknowledge, optional) HD-DVD drive, it's just another box, another cable out of the back of the 360, another power socket used up, and another power brick. No matter where you put it, it looks out of place...

I'm sure that were it matters (playback) it's perfectly adequate, but I'll take the larger, but cleaner built-in solution in the form of PS3. For HD-DVD playback, I'll just buy a good stand-alone player to replace my current DVD player.

here in germany the first batch is sold out judging from two different sources that don't have them anymore in stock. don't know how many units that have been totally but the ps3 won't arrive here for some time, so from this perspective hd-dvd for enthusisastic gamers has a pretty headstart here and xmas is pretty popular here. still don't need it though.
When it comes to porting Final Fantasy XIII to Xbox 360, Square's of the opinion that it's not the size of the disc that matters; it's how you use it.

Could someone tell me if my picture would be anybetter? My TV supports up to 1080i and so does the 360 upscale the picture to that. Aside from playing HD-DVDs and supporting 1080p how is it different from playback on the DVD drvie? Sorry im not really tech savvy.

most dvd's are encoded in 480p resolution video. HD-DVD are capable of having 1080p content.

And the playback is much more smooth, but interms of the 360 hd-dvd player
you can see that the rewinding is not smooth at all, but that's nothing
    firmware can't fix! D

I had initially planned to join the HD DVD camp when I upgraded my computer with Vista etc...

But I'm not sure when HDDVD PC Roms will even be available in NZ and at what cost.
So Instead I'll invest in one of these badboys at what should be a very reasonable price when they come here.
So by the End of 2007 I should have both an HDDVD and Bluray player (PS3 naturally) sitting under my TV!
Hell I might even upgrade the old 720p set to a nice shiny 1080p LCD!

HD-DVDs are native 1080P so, assuming your TV will accept 1080P over VGA, you will be watching native 1080P

If you run a dvd through your 360 that is hooked up with a vga cable then your dvd's will be upscaled to 720p. That still doesn't match the quality of a native 1080p video.

I hope there is a dominant winner for this format war as I just bought an HDTV on friday and I want to take full advantage of my 1080p resolution for movies. GEARS looks AMAZING! Im sorry but it was a big moment for me to get that TV....
