Reputation Bar
-
08-04-2005 #2
well i would say the mods and admin would have too do the moving of reputition because someone can go and lower everyones and make them selves look good. and that would take alot of the mods and admins time so the forums would start getting messed up. you can tell whos a good poster by points or if they post alot check out there posts.

VOTE FOR JOHN McCAIN!

Is this like a Karma bar?
No guts, No glory!

Im not sure, but i think it could possibly start flame wars now an then, and whats stopping people from voting any old crap.
And it might make some people feel unwanted on the forum or something...not liking this idea too much...I have no signature.
No, really, i don't. You're just imagining this.

I would be up for this, so long as only mods and admins could adjust reputation on a per post basis.
Might actually be a good idea to help those new to the forum get a feel for those who are respected on the forums. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. This is a personal communication and in no way represents the official or unofficial views or opinions of my employer.

Yeh actually if mods and admins could only change it, that would be good, hey maybe even SMCs?
It would get abused if anyone could use itI have no signature.

Well you could do it so that users could be awarded karma for to award other users, as in respected members are given lets say 10 karma points that they could give out to other members they thought were good posters (anonymously of course to avoid hate situautions.

will let's give it a try and see how it works out. I like to see what happens. anyone got a website that shows how it works.

I think it would be cool if some how there was a little function for the users to rate a post on a scale of 1-5 and this would either increase or decrease thier reputation.
However I feel Mod's shouldnt cary reputation bars as it wouldnt be healthy for the forums.

To help combat, people from giving others really bad scores, you could have a mod to throw out maybe the highest, and lowest scores.

If someone has a really low score we'll just ban em'
Only kidding......

Or are you?
JK I am all for it except for that if certain member doesn't like another member they can make that members rep very low. Also what about SMC members? we could get a very low rep and tyhat would be weird for a SMC member to have a low rep....

I'm not totally convinced. If the mods were responsible then we would have the huge task of rating loads of members, which would require yet more time. Plus, we would get endless PMs/emails saying "whys my rep bad?!" or "did you c that gangsta p0st i jus made?????". If it were done by members then if someone or a group people didn't like a particular person then they could rate all of his posts badly and thus distort the ratings. Then that person would obviously compain and we would have to deal with it.
The ultimate question is would all this extra time and effort make a huge positive difference to the forums? I'm not so sure it would.

No you could just make like a behavior kind of thing that increases over time and when yoou cuss and do something in the forum that is inapropriate it goes down

This idea is not going to work very well at all. I say we don't do this because it will cause problems for sure.

The reputation bar could be based on the actual quality of the post, without any user comment or interference necessary. For example, if someone types a swear word, resulting in it typing *expletive deleted* (lol, feels weird typing that out), then the user's rating could drop. Using proper grammar and spelling could make the reputation bar rise. Typing in paragraphs, using quotes, providing links to backup your argument, etc., could all be incorporated into the reputation bar.

I did not mean that your idea was bad, but I just do not like the whole idea. We have Skill Points isn't that enough?

Well the Skill Points don't seem to be working for me right now, it's been acting wierd lately. On some posts it would tell me how many Skill Points I recieved for each, then it'll just say "You have recieved Skill Points for that post!" and I can't see my Skill Points (or anyone's for that matter) for a while at least. Plus, Skill Points diminish, when people make purchases in the shop.
Ah well, overall I agree the idea does't really suit the forum very well.

You do not get Skill Points in the General Chit Chat section or Suggestions/Comments section and you do not see how many Skill Points each member has as well in these two sections.

[-]Blu-ray Pirates of the Caribbean 3 box set confirmed
Sony Home Entertainment recently announced that Spiderman 3 will be available in October with a special edition Blu-ray box set. Disney then countered with a announcement for their blockbuster rival Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End to be released in December.
The announcement; however, failed to mention any sort of box set for either DVD or Blu-ray formats. Disney CEO Bob Iger recently confirmed that Disney indeed plans to release a box set for the trilogy that will be available in both formats. The announcement came at Disney’s third quarter earnings call after the CEO commented on how well sales are for movies in the Blu-ray disc format, including the first two Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
Iger stated the box set will be 3 discs but failed to mention specs or special features. Iger also suggested that the box set is scheduled to coincide with the release of Pirate of the Caribbean: At Worlds End but stated that no official date is confirmed.
PSU will keep you updated when Disney released more news so stick around!

Hey Dustin. Apologies, but after discussing with Seb, we've set down some guidelines which means this won't go up.
