I don't have a bluetooth headset, but was looking at getting one for both my phone and the PS3 that i don't have yet. From the research i've done, it seems that although all headsets should work with any other compatible bluetooth device, some seem to be... shall we say... more compatible than others.
so the question is, can we get a list of headsets people have used with their ps3s that seem to work well. and of course those that don't. might help some of us in selecting our purchases.
Thanks in advance.

Ok, I have tried to make a compilation of responses from this post and others regarding this issue. Please let me know if you have additional information about these headsets, others, or if what I have is erroneous.
I have also added info about headsets from the playstation.com thread listing. those with info taken only from that site will have a * before it. Not a specific endorsement, just trying not to plagiarize. The original thread (as found by FEAR) from there can be found HERE
I will try and keep this updated, but have kinda slacked a bit since getting a ps3 myself. Thanks for looking and contributing!

As for instructions on how to use your headset, see this quote from Charon...

Make sure your BT is in the correct mode, as this stumped me for a bit. There is a difference, at least for mine, between 'on' and 'registering mode'. Your BT should come up, but you will have to enter your passcode. This should be included in your BT manual. If not, the most common ones are '0000' or '1234'. Then make sure under your microphone/audio settings (under XMB again) that the BT is set for input and output. Here you can also test the mike levels (you'll see the bar move when you speak).
It depends on what type of game you are playing. If you play deathmatch, you will hear other people, but this is only when L3 is pressed by them (you will also see their name and a microphone icon appear in the bottom right corner). If you want to talk, you have to hold down L3, but your name won't show up. If you are playing a team game (CTF), you do not have to hold down L3 to talk to your teammates, just speak. It makes it much easier. I am not sure though if you do hold down L3 if the opposing team hears it (global).
Does this help? Let me (or us) know if you need more info.

Using a Plantronics 320. It's been working fine, but the volume could be a little louder.

My headset in using is a Plantronics Discovery 655. its more on the expensive side but it works with my sharp 903sh phone as well as my ps3 so no complains. Plus it looks sweet and is really light!

Thanks for the input. any others?
right now it looks like if you're willing to pay, the plantronics 655 and the motorola h700 sound like possibilties. as i haven't used BT before, not sure about the registering issue with motorola. with other types of headsets, do you only have to register once and done even with the PS3? is this a PS3 problem in general or just with certain headsets?

I've only tested it on the PS3 menu, not the online itself but I got Jensen bluetooth headphones that double as a headset for $55 from buy.com. they have been great to me and I love them. I'll tell you how they are once I test them online.

I'm looking into buying a headset for both my cell phone and the ps3. Does anyone know if the Motorola HS500 works well? I don't want to have to register it every time I turn on my ps3. Thanks

I got a Sony Ericsson HBH-610a, but it just came in a couple of hours ago and I'm charging it.
First of all, it matches my 60GB PS3 perfectly.

My camera is horrible, but you get the idea. The black/silver matches perfectly through a human eye as opposed to a five year old cheap Samsung camera. Came with a few faceplates and I was glad to see one that matched so well.
I'll edit later to let you all know how it works too.
