I heard a rumor that square-enix is considering on making games for xboxnext......I'm pretty sure this is old news but when I heard this rumor I was surprised...why would square-enix consider to make games for the xboxnext???? is it because ps3 is going to come out late?? what???????? I mean when I was reading the psp developers list square-enix was on there but when will the games be announced? It seems to me square-enix is losing interest in sony.
anyways, what if square-enix really start making games for xboxnext? what will happen to ps3? will it succeed like ps1 and ps2?
well, look at the positive side, sony fanboys won't be accused of dressing up like idiots(cosplay)...ahhaaa.

Yeah well they might go multi-platform, all you can think of now is to say SONY FOREVER! lol

Well It might happen or sony might just make another deal with square we will have to see if sony doesnt dominate next generation then square will probably make there games multiplatform to make more money but if sony dominates then they will have no need to and shouldnt this thread be in other consoles?

I quite like the idea of SQUARE making games for X-Box.
-
08-24-2004 #6
the reason why square said its a definite possibility is because as a company they have recently come up with a new business plan for 'polymorphic' content. what 'polymorphic' content is is very hard to explain but i cant remember where the interview i saw is where a square-enix guy explains it as best as he can so im just going to have to try
basically the idea of it is to not let individual media's or platforms or whatever to restrain their idea, as normally you say right we are going to make a ps2 game or a xbox game or a tv manga series or a comic book or whatever, you then go and think of and develop a idea for that. this holds you and your idea's back as when making a ps2 game you cant do what the platform doesn’t allow you do for whatever reason, same for any other media like tv. so what polymorphic content is Is content or idea's or concepts or whatever that is not designed for a individual medium, you just let yourself be creative and come up with cool idea's in your head, once you develop it a bit you could then say right lets manifest this idea in a tv series with a video game to go alongside it or whatever, you manifest it however best suits your idea when it suits your idea. so you can be creative as you want and not have to worry about whether it will go well with a individual medium
does any of that make any sense?"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."

MY FIRST POST!!!!!!!!!!11 HIYA

Last thing I read was that SquareEnix might be interested partly due to the implications of XNA. The ideas behind it intrigued Square but that's as much as they said.
Square's commented, and their history shows, they develop for the most popular console. They've recently started to branch out to Gamecube though not directly. (Crystal Chronicles was made by a division of SquareEnix)
I wouldn't count on it but I wouldn't go as far to count Square out.Give it. Get it.

I think Squares going to stick with Sony at the moment. Maybe when the next-gen systems appear they'll make a crossover but even if they do this is hardly going to hurt Sony.

If I remember rightly Sony owns 20% of square, so what ever happens, wether square decide to develop games on Xbox, sony will always benefit and also get squares games.
-
08-27-2004 #11well yea, Sony will always get a annual dividend from square and also have a lot of voting power within square which the top square guys will always have to remember, so I don’t think its likely they will stop developing for Sony. they just might make games for multiple platforms

How could they say such a thing? Star Ocean is a failed game,
Please don't leave sony, though I wonder why, the game was supposedly released 2 days ago right?
So we should be hearing about something shouldn't we?

I would love that. It would just give an all around balance to the systems. I love the games, but so do many other people, and thats part of why the Sony Systems have sold so well (i didn't mention the Grand Theft series, which is also part). I think it would make the console battle more balanced.

well this one was after me at least...I don't believe that there should be a multi-platform...why do we choose which system to buy? because CERTAIN EXCLUSIVES are on them...if all the systems had the same games then what's the point of having different consoles?

Usabilty of the console and extra features.
Take for example Microsoft. In a lot of ways it is in their best interest to have all games be multiplatform that are developed by 3rd parties.
Then all they have to do is sell potential console owners on their features like Xbox Live.
I don't have all the details but understand that Squaresoft did like the original Xbox. I am still surprised to this day that we have not seen any games from them on it. It too early to tell if next generation will be the same. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Well watashi Im getting an Xbox soon, then I'll have all 3 systems. Now which system do you think I would be more likely to want to play a 3rd party game on. Obviously the Xbox because I still get the same game as on the other systems but the graphics will likely be better and so will overall gameplay due to supperior system performance. When I get an Xbox I'll likely only be playing 3rd party on it, with the exception of a couple of must have exclusives. Now then I'll still have my Gamecube and PS2 for their exclusives. Only thing is, I think alot of people get all 3 systems for bragging rights, kind of lame but that's the way people are.

X-Box probably won't beat Sony. Sony has been probably the most preferred console for years. Square going multi platform isn't going to change that! And they already have gone to Nintendo with FF Crystal Chronicles and FF Tactics, so what does it matter if they go to Microsoft also?
"Pitiful mortal. Your hope ends here."

Ahh but Square still hasn't brought a real Final Fantasy to any other console but the Playstations for the last 2 generations. FF:CC is a joke in this regard. FF Tactics is only on the GBA.
Consider that if MS has even 10% market share in Japan they would have over a 20% lead on the GC right now and have over 25% of the systems sold that Sony does WW.
In the US, the Xbox has outsold the PS2 for 3 of the first 9 months this year. One of the 3 months can be contributed to a shortage of PS2's as Sony phased in the new Mini-PS2, but they still beat them. Tracking info shows that consumers that went to buy a PS2 during that time just bought an Xbox. They didn't wait for the PS2's to get back in stock. This says a lot.
I agree, WW I don't think MS will beat Sony next generation. But I think it will be close in EU and MS will tie or Win the US, Canada, and Australia.
In Australia where Sony only had a 6 month launch advantage. MS is basically tied with them. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. This is a personal communication and in no way represents the official or unofficial views or opinions of my employer.

wow such an old post...but anyway if square-enix makes games for the xbox go for it, but they must still keep the final fantasy on sony's console...now that I don't want to bring this back to life

01-08-2005 #23from what i can remember you are correct on that, what does it matter though, just because they own a minority portion of the shares doesn’t mean they can tell them what to do
