Building a computer will save you alot of money. Its not very hard to do and you can save $500-$1000. But if you dont want to do that, for gaming I would go with Alienware or Falcon Northwest

I wish I knew how to build my own computer. is there any books or school that show you how to do that.

I use to have a Alienware, but something went terribly wrong one day that put it beyond repair.

I would choose AMD (the company that makes Alienware) and Apple over DELL and Compaq any day.

I personally think Alien Ware is overrated and expensive.

How is Alienware overrated? They've beat out every other company when it comes to benchmark tests. And they're not that expensive, but having a high-end gaming rig is expensive if you're not building one yourself.

I hope most of most of the games that come out for the pc can be port to the ps3 or 360.

Alienware is definitely expensive when you compare it to building it yourself, but if you configure similar PCs on the Alienware website and the Dell website with comparable specs, the Alienware will actually be cheaper. In some instances, you can even get a better Alienware for cheaper than a Dell XPS. The only beef I have with Alienware (although alot of other companies do it too), is that when you configure the PC you want online, there are pages and pages to fill out after you get the basic specs down that ask if you want a wide array of things from t-shirts to mugs to printers to USB keys to better quality cables and wireless keyboards and mice, which can get annoying. Splurge on nicer stuff if you like, and if you can afford it then by all means, but just know that if you checked off everything, you could easily get a bill for $50,000. So, if you have your heart set on an Alienware, decide exactly what you want to spend and what you want to do with your PC, which, if you have really deep pockets includes fancy extras like liquid cooling. Question yourself when it comes to RAM and hard disks and CPU speed as to whether the bigger pricetag is comparable to the payoff. Decide exactly what you want for peripherals prior as well, because they really want you to impulse buy all their extras.

    ^^^^^

Yeah, I noticed on their site that they like to bombard you with extras to buy. It can be confusing, so you have to know EXACTLY what you want, like you said.

I don't know, I just think that I could get just as good of a computer with parts that don't exactly have to be that powerful, my comp has a 2 year old video card and it plays the games I want perfectly so I guess that's just my preference.

Also, I probably shouldn't have put "overrated" instead I should have put "It's too expensive for my tastes."

I was once thinking about getting an Alienware until the comp ended up being about 4-5k so I just got a comp upgrade instead which as long as the games I like work than that's all I need.

    comps

Yeah we got an Alienware computer for about $4600 about 2 years ago, worked great for about a year, then started to go down hill (mostly because everyone in the family including the 4 year olds wanted to use it) and then because nobody felt like taing care of it except me and my cousin, it just went down the tubes. Now my like $1000 home made computer is way out performing the alienware one, and I find that pretty sad. Also the AW computer had some wierd problems when it got to our house, which required about 7 calles to customer service and some assembly required. But all in all it probably would have been alot better if the 4 year olds didnt think that the power button on the computer was better then the windows shut off button all the time.

"The speed of computers doubles every 18 months". What is the top-of-the-line PC now will be garbage in just a few years. Upgrading can become a big hassle.

I'm considering buying one too Chocobo Kid, but the more I read into Alienware the more I hear from owners that they consistently end up being either delivered faulty or breaking down within the first year. Perhaps that is why the Alienware site features so many warranty upgrades and diagnosis-tool software add-ons. Personally, I don't think it’s worth splashing out big-bucks on a top of the line PC unless you can comfortably afford it or are involved in PC gaming as part of your job.

Despite this bad press, Alienware do always seem to have superior performance to that of nearly all other gaming PC's. I could be wrong on this but I really can’t think of any other PC’s with the sort of specs Alienware offer for a similar or cheaper price. I probably would have bought an Alienware PC already if I hadn’t heard from my friends and people online how they all seem to break down.

Well have you heard of Falcon Northwest? Go to www.falcon-nw.com and they have the best of the best. Somewhat $$$ but they have different things that people can afford. I love the face plates you can put on you PC as they have tons of them that glow.

The problem with the computer wasnt that it wasnt cutting edge anymore, the problem was thousands of viruses and system errors., here let me take a screen shot of my screen right now to show you the current problem.

wait why does your screen look like that again? lol. If you get a virus or something just delete your partitions recreate the partition and reinstall windows. I do this like every 3 months and my computer is always fast. I started doing this when I realized I got adware and virus within 5 months of windows Xp being installed (yes I update it everytime.)

I would do all that wonderful stuff but all the other people who use it wont let me do anything that serious to it. (Oh and we dont actually know why the screen does that, but what ever is causeing that is also making the computer horribly slow.)

You should really reinstall windows or run some Spybot/Norton anti-virus. Or it might be something wrong with your video card/moniter. Thats probably it.. My sister's computer shows everything like you put a magnet over it (thats not what happened lol). I think its her video card.

It depends when u got that specific computer, if u have a crt monitor with time the picture quality starts to degrade. It looks like your monitor is running out of life, theoretically speaking your monitor lifespan is almost up. I had that same problem with my 5 years old monitor, I had to get rid of it.

As in regards to Alienware, it's a very good brand especially dedicated to the average and extreme gamer. It's website is fully customizable unlike some other big name companies. But it most priced possession the ALX system with the liquid cooled system is out of reach of most gamers, customizable at $5000 U.S.D. Thats really expensive. But there are other options out there that really come close to alienware. Here is a link to back up my word. They even have their own liquid cooled system that would not make u file for bankruptcy.

explore the link and draw your own conclusions

    India you mean? lol.

If your having problems with viruses and adware just download some free programs like Antivir 9x, Crap Cleaner, Ad-Aware Se Personal, Spyware Blaster, Spyware doctor, Spybot Search and Destroy and etc.

Good site to download all of those is download.com

Also when using the internet use some common sense... Like when you visit a site and they prompt you to download something and you have no idea what it is then DONT, lol. Also i'd suggest using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.

If your system is slow and gets frequent errors use windows scandisk and defrag. Also you might consider reformating your hard drive.

I think Alienware is great (saving up for one). I would build my own computer but i just dont have the time to shop around for parts and build it.
