RT top critics is a good measure. Better than anything else ive seen.
X-men Origins: Wolverine. 6/10.
I watched this while i worked out. Aside from the cheese, average special effects (too much unneeded slow mo), and huge deviation from the original story, it was entertaining enough to keep me watching i suppose. I mean, i mainly stuck around to see John Carter's performance (had to wait the whole effing movie though).
Oh, and I did not like see patrick stewart at the end. looked awful and unnecessary.you game? http://www.ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=55990

Demolition Man: 8/10
I'm sure most of you would disagree with this score and possibly question my taste in movies as you have in the past, but let me just say that this movie is criminally under-rated, just like Last Action Hero. This movie is a satirical parody of a futuristic world. It's a big "fuck you" to the social order. Aside from the terrible pans and mediocre acting, this movie still had me laughing my ass off for a 90's movie. And I don't laugh at 90's comedies because they're not on par with my post-millennium standards today. Sly can make you laugh. The director even mentioned that this movie was more a comedy than a serious one. The blu-ray quality is amazing. Whoever rendered it has my utmost respect.
EPIC FORESHADOWING
and this is why I love this movie.Last edited by DreDayDetox; 03-05-2012 at 06:16.

Rotten Tomatoes has reduced film criticism to an aggregate number based on the opinions of shitty film bloggers (and some genuinely good critics, but mostly shitty ones). Criticism today is more about that number than it is about deconstructing and analyzing films.

Now that's an argument I can understand. However, I don't think your issue is with RT. It's actually with society.
The critics still have full-fledged reviews, analyzing the movie. Even the "consensus" about the movie is a nicely summarized version of the aggregated reviews. If someone only wants to look at the numbers, that's their choice. The full reviews are there and usually linked if people are interested in an in-depth analysis.
When I say society, I mean that because it's not just movies, not just Rotten Tomatoes. How many discussions have there been over video game reviews and debates because of review numbers only. Not taking into account a real analysis.
As far as bloggers go I would agree with you but hey if they're right on the money with the rest of the true critics, why not let 'em. Frankly, there's some real critics who I don't agree with.
I don't particularly enjoy that one, but I really enjoyed Last Action Hero when I was pre-teens.
My biggest issue is when they try to do 90's-esque movies nowadays... like The Expendables. IMO, that's when it fails.Last edited by RedDragon7; 03-05-2012 at 07:14.

Thing is, I want to know as little as possible before watching a movie. So the number, the consensus, and the review summaries give me a decent idea without spoiling the movie.
However, while it contributes to my decision, there are still instances where I see or don't see a film regardless.

Speaking of RT and the influence of Critics, was J. Edgar as mediocre as everyone said it was?

My interpretation of those things is that the role is good, meaning the performance is good, but the movie is lackluster. Meaning the story/narrative. Unfortunately that does tend to happen now and again. The Iron Lady is the same thing according to RT.

Leo did a great job, but the movie was really slow-moving. But I watch a lot of foreign cinema, so I'm used to that sort of thing. It was alright. Wasn't bad or anything, but people hated it because there weren't explosions every five seconds or something. Story was mediocre. I wouldn't watch it again.

Midnight Cowboy (John Schlesinger, 1969) B-
Definitely not a Best Picture movie, but it was fine. It's got some charm to it, some nice drama, and the characters are likeable, even though Voight and Hoffman give incredibly over-the-top performances. It's not great or even that good, but it's not too bad either. Can't say I didn't smile a few times or even get a little bit sad when I was supposed to.
The Lady Vanishes (Alfred Hitchcock, 1938) A-
It's a story that's been done to death, although in fairness, Hitchcock did it before anyone else. However, I do love these kinds of films, and it wasn't nearly as predictable as I thought it would be. It's suspenseful, intriguing, and exciting. Very very good movie.
The Kennel Murder Case (Michael Curtiz, 1933) B
Casablanca this is not, but it's a solid mystery film. I always love seeing how the pieces of a mystery fall together. It's not the best I've seen, not by a long shot, but it's still enjoyable and if you like old-fashioned mysteries then you should like this, although it is on the short side (72 minutes I believe).

Dream House 7.5/10- This was a pretty solid suspense movie with some decent plot twist. Not phenomenal but interesting through to the end. Although it felt kind of floored in the last 20 mins or so. Most of the cast play their roles pretty well.

Bronson (2008): 7/10
Great performance by Tom Hardy as always, this movie isn't for everyone, i did enjoy it, although it did feel pointless at times since the plot didn't really move much forward.Last edited by Nuvian; 03-09-2012 at 14:19.

John Carter - 7.5/10
First time I've disagreed with RT in a while. I liked it...
Here's the thing, these books were written sometime in the early 1900's, well before we knew much about Mars. Including that we can't breath it's air.
Also, it's a light-hearted romanticized science fiction adventure. You have to wrap your head around that or you'll be laughing all the way through. And if you guys have seen the tv spots "Before there was Star Wars and Avatar..." you gotta remember this started those and many others.
Anyway, I doubt the guy's guy will enjoy this. Some of you are probably gonna call it lame. So be it, just a heads up to those are willing to try it out.
Final note, Lynn Collins... Black long hair, tan skin, brightened eyes, sexy dresses, filled out body, playful attitude (not to mention the make-up)... Hmmm, maybe it wasn't the movie that grabbed me.

They showed most of the action in the tv spots. There's more story, actually.
I believe it's posted converted IMAX and even the 3D. There's no full screen IMAX. And I heard the 3D is pretty thin.
