Time to review the rest of the Lethal Weapon series, long overdue. I'll start from part two since I already reviewed the first one.
Lethal Weapon 2:
This, much like the first is even more personal in terms of character development. This shows that it's not just some mindless action movie with chases. It's a great buddy-cop film that shows how much chemistry Gibson and Glover have on-screen. It shows a softer side of Riggs, a break in that tough shell exterior. His more human side, and how much he cares for his partner. The toilet bomb scene showcases that really nicely. It still had the humor from the first one, of course Riggs being the Joker again. I never thought I'd be able to laugh at an 80's movie (or 90's if you go by release) because of the time it was made in and comedy was different, by I did. A few times too. Loved the ending. What a great way to go. And Joe Pesci became my favorite actor because of this movie. What a character! Ok ok ok ok!
8/10
Lethal Weapon 3:
This one still had the flair of the first two, but it felt like a lot of the character ingredients from the first two were missing. The plot wasn't nearly as interesting, and the villain was a little played out. It dragged along and at times got a little too serious when it didn't need to. There wasn't a balance of hilarity and seriousness like in the first two. You would think they'd stop after this, but with changing times, sequels must be made. I would say this is my least favorite of the series and the weakest imo.
6.5/10
Lethal Weapon 4:
This one introduced a new villain and a new character to the story. Jet Li as the Triad crime lord who knows kick-ass martial arts and kills with deadly precision. Chris Rock, who parallels to Joe Pesci's character, as he is annoying and overly emotional. Chris Rock and Joe Pesci had a great dynamic scene in this one and the game certainly changed for Gibson and Glover because it was in the late 90's and they were dealing with old age. It certainly was a good idea, but again, it was missing that balance, and some of Riggs' character traits were missing too. That being said, the dentist office scene was my favorite. I could hardly understand a word of what they were joking about since everyone was overlapping dialogue loudly, but I felt the need to laugh because it sucks you in and makes you want to laugh with them. Good times. Near the end Joe Pesci stole the show and reminded me of what made the first two movies so great: friendship til death do us part.
7/10
But ffs Hollywood, do not reboot this series. It doesn't need that treatment. It's great the way it is, just like Total Recall and Robocop are great they way they are.

This is what I watched in the past week:
Vertigo is a brilliant film, one that seems to meander (much like its lead character), but wraps up brilliantly by the shocking finale. It's a very intriguing mystery that kept me gripped, and although I still had a couple of questions by the end, it, for the most part, is an incredible piece of film noir by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock. (Alfred Hitchcock | 1958) 4 stars
Sunset Boulevard is a brilliant film noir that explores the treacherous depths of obsession and the dangers of fame. What I love about it is that every character is really developed. I might not have liked everything that Joe Gillis did, but ultimately I wanted to see him triumph and be in the best possible situation at the end. Norma Desmond was batshit crazy, but I felt bad for her and wanted to see her thriving in the end anyway. I never felt like I was seeing only the parts of the character that the filmmakers wanted me to see; I saw the good and the bad in them, and ultimately decided for myself that I liked them. Joe Gillis is played by William Holden and Norma Desmond by Gloria Swanson and they both do excellent work. There are also cameos by Cecil B. DeMille and Buster Keaton. The script is great, with smart dialogue that doesn't feel dated and engrossing monologues by Joe Gillis. I really love this movie. (Billy Wilder | 1950) 4 stars
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut has all of the vulgarity of the show and none of the wit. I love the show but this is just raunch over intelligence. The film tries to get across a message about how parents blame television, movies, etc. for the way their children behave, but that message is lost in an incoherent plot filled with pointlessly crude humor. This really disappointed me, actually going so far as to upset me, because I really wanted to love it but it was pretty damn bad. (Trey Parker | 1999) 1½ stars
The Searchers is every bit as epic as I hoped it would be. John Wayne, who I normally don't like (I don't even like The Quiet Man), is great in this movie. Some of the other acting is a bit hokey, but I can forgive that. I felt like I was going on an adventure; Western films often have that effect on me. It made me wanna join John Wayne on a horse and go after the Comanche natives who took his niece. The film's pacing is a bit uneven, often making the film feel an hour longer than it actually is, but again, the journey was so enthralling that I didn't even mind the apparent length of the film (it's actually only two hours long but felt like three). (John Ford | 1956) 4 stars
The Bourne Identity is solid entertainment; perhaps it's not as great as people make it out to be, but it's still enjoyable. The action is cool and Matt Damon is a likable protagonist. Action aside, when the film slows down for dialogue-heavy moments, oh boy does it slow down. Parts of this film are downright boring, but I think the fun set pieces make up for it. It's a smart and enthralling action-thriller, for the most part. (Doug Liman | 2002) 3 stars
The Bourne Supremacy improves on its predecessor by upping the stakes, but unfortunately, it still suffers the pacing issues of the first film. Paul Greengrass took over as director, and while he does stage some impressive action sequences, the camerawork is a little shaky and the editing is a little choppy. Still, it feels like a much more badass action-thriller with a much more focused story, so for that, it's better than The Bourne Identity. (Paul Greengrass | 2004) 3 stars
The Bourne Ultimatum shows the growth of both Paul Greengrass (director) and Tony Gilroy (writer) as filmmakers. The film doesn't suffer the pacing issues of the first two and moves along at a brisk pace. The set pieces are bigger and more badass, including a great chase sequence about halfway into the film. The camerawork and editing are much better, with more steady shots and less jump cuts, so the aforementioned set pieces are much clearer and nicer to look at. I guess if I had a single gripe, it'd be that Jason Bourne occasionally defies logic by giving away his location when it would really benefit him not to. It makes for some cool action, but really doesn't lend itself to any common sense whatsoever. Regardless, this movie is fucking awesome. The Bourne Supremacy was a step above The Bourne Identity, and The Bourne Ultimatum is two steps above The Bourne Supremacy. Again, fucking awesome. (Paul Greengrass | 2007) 3½ stars
The Three Stooges was watched by myself and two of my friends, just to see how bad it was. Oh boy, was it bad. I mean REALLY bad. Admittedly, the three leads do a decent job of impersonating the Stooges, but the humor is so dated. There's a reason why their humor was contained mostly to short films; too much of them becomes grating, and these guys aren't even the real Stooges so it's worse. I laughed a few times at some stupid but funny gags (there's one part where they sell smoked salmon and it's a fish with a cigar in its mouth), but for the most part, it's tedious and repetitive; again, seeing these guys for a short period of time is bearable, but this film was like ninety minutes and it's just too much of something that barely works in the modern entertainment world anyway. (Peter Farrelly, Bobby Farrelly | 2012) 1½ stars
Yeah I know man, that movie totally sucked.Last edited by TRF; 08-15-2012 at 12:56.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day: 9/10
This is probably my 10th, 20th viewing of it. I just love it so much and it's my favourite acting role by Arnie because he actually has to act like a robot. But even so, there's some humanity to him and Sarah Connor in her background narration explains how he's like a father figure to John. I love the action in the movie, it's so different from anything at that time, and it's probably because of the high production values. This is the James Cameron I love. Next is the villain played by Robert Patrick. A mimetic poly-alloy. Oh what is that you say? LIQUID METAL!! Sounds like a rock genre lol. I remember the first time I watched T2 on DVD, (since I was too small to get into the theater because it was R-Rated) it was quite an experience. And what I love about the villain is that each time you think he's dead from an explosion or liquid nitrogen, he comes back. He persists in being a cold, calculating killing machine from the future. Then the ending was quite beautiful, it made me cry the first time I watched when I was 9 years old because you were rooting so much for Arnie as the Terminator, and then he has to dip himself into molten lava. I agree now that it should have ended at this movie. T3 is a joke and Salvation is better than T3, but it wasn't necessary at all. They could have easily made a movie about Terminator set in the 2020's like the opening prologues of the Cameron films.

I never understood why people act like Terminator 2: Judgment Day is anything more than a dumb, fun, cheesy action movie. And then they knock Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, which is just as stupid, as if the two films are different. I enjoy the first three films, though I do like The Terminator the most and the second and third are pretty close together in terms of quality. Terminator Salvation was lame though.

T3 has nothing on the first two movies. It looks like a dumb, cheesy action movie on the outside, but you need to pay attention to the dialogue, not just the James Cameron action stamp. It's great because Arnie is expected to act like a robot, yet there is still some humanity to him. Obviously we both grew up in different times lol. And T2 prevented Judgement Day, end of the world etc. I think the only reason they did T3 was to get one last movie out of Arnie before he goes into politics and play with the CGI since it was over a decade later.

Okay yeah, the third film was unnecessary, but it was still fun to watch. So was the second, except the third film didn't have an annoying protagonist and a cheesy relationship between John Connor and the T-800. Yes, the second film is better, but only because the action is better, and only by a teeny bit.

The Dark Knight Rises - 9/10
Finally came around to watch it. Great movie, grandiose themes and an epic ending to an epic story. The last 15 minutes were absolute bliss, in my opinion.
Yet, that doesn't mean the movie had no flaws. The middle was quite too dragging for my tastes, and Michael Caine's scenes were oh so few in this instalment.
Acting was top-class, music was beautiful, story was well thought out, and overall great superhero movie. One that will be talked about for a long time.Last edited by Ixion; 08-15-2012 at 21:01. Reason: spoilered ending scene

I don't know why people hate Terminator Salvation. I thought it was much better than Terminator 3. Not as good as Terminator 2 because it had more interesting characters and whatnot but still pretty good.
Also, the T-1000 was a lot more intimidating than the Terminatrix in the third movie, who was nothing more than a dumb, blonde bimbo making ridiculous sex poses with Arnold during fight sequences. Give me a break.Last edited by Blacksite; 08-15-2012 at 21:12.

I wonder if Kristinna Loken was a lesbo before T3 or after. And I liked Salvation more than T3, that's about it.

I just thought Salvation was so generic. The backdrop was interesting obviously, but the plot and characters were so uninteresting.

Neither of the villains in the second and third films had personality. Robert Patrick just happened to look more menacing.

T2 was one of the last movies where Cameron and the films themselves let the story drive the technology. Not to mention it broke ground visually. But back to the story, it was something new and interesting.
Anyone who doesn't see a difference between T2 and either of the sequels... I don't understand you. It started the trend of machines taking over the world and/or through our creation. The Matrix? ...Came from T1 and 2.
