    Twilight isnt a romantic comedy.
Just because it has a love story and zombies are in the vampire and werewolf spectrum people mention twilight way too much with this movie. Im going to give it a chance but to me it just looks like your generic romantic comedy with a zombie gimmick.

It could be modern, but there's no attempt to connect it to modern civilization. It's just sort of its own little world, if that makes any sense, which keeps the Shakespearean dialogue from being awkward for me. One of my favorite films of the year; like you said, the acting is phenomenal. Gerard Butler and Jessica Chastain were underused but goddamn, Ralph Fiennes and Vanessa Redgrave gave such intense performances.
Yes there were so many piece of the movie that made me want to love it but I just felt so out of it because I didn't catch a lot of the dialogue. Although I do commend them for try to make an actual Shakespearean adaptation. So the movie is really directed at the people who enjoy Shakespeare.

It's irrelevant whether it's a rom com or not, the visuals alone give off that twilight vibe. And if a lot of other people are saying that too, then it means something. That doesn't necessarily mean it's automatically a bad thing that it looks like Twilight, but the actors and the love story certainly reminds me of Twilight. It's nice that it's the one of the first rom coms with zombies in it though, and the whole concept of him transitioning back to a human by being in love is cute. Might work out to be a pretty decent movie. We'll see.

Much like reading Shakespeare's work. Interesting movie overall though.
I couldn't follow the Shakespearean dialogue either. Especially with the modern setting, it felt out of place. I'm sure it's one of the reasons critics loved it though.

    Django Unchained

Caught an advance screening last night. It is easily the most BAD ASS film of 2012 and one of the year's best. Incredible acting from Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, & Leonardo DiCaprio. It brings the Western back as a cool film genre. Plus I have a soft spot for stories about bounty hunters. This is coming from someone who has never been a Quentin Tarantino fan & who typically doesn't really like his movies.

    Easily a 9 out of 10.

I saw the preview for Django and it looked really good. I wouldn't mind seeing it but I'll most likely go see The Hobbit next.

Yep. Also certain metropolitan areas will have agencies that will giveaway prescreenings via social media, newspapers, on college campuses, etc.

    7/10

For a kids' movie, it was pretty good.
"The biggest adversary in our life is ourselves. We are what we are, in a sense, because of the dominating thoughts we allow to gather in our head. All concepts of self-improvement, all actions and paths we take, relate solely to our abstract image of ourselves. Life is limited only by how we really see ourselves and feel about our being. A great deal of pure self-knowledge and inner understanding allows us to lay an all-important foundation for the structure of our life from which we can perceive and take the right avenues.

I've heard the Hobbits first hour drags on a bit. But then it gets a better.
Feel a bit privileged knowing this was made just an hour and bits drive away from me.

    The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Tonight I attended an high frame rate (HFR) 3D advance screening. Solid but very familiar. It lacks the urgency, scale, and progression of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Visual effects are some of the best out there but really felt more like a refinement of what was done before. The controversial 48 frames per second format did not bother me as much as I anticipated but I am not in love with it. I will say that it helped make the 3D really crisp, as Peter Jackson has argued. It did make some shots feel "fake" and overall the look reminded me of a BBC movie or TV show. This is one of the few films I will recommend seeing the 3D version of because otherwise you might just be bored honestly if you aren't a hardcore fan. Overall, lacked the fresh impact of the LOTR trilogy yet I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it.

Did the 48fps make the movie feel more faster? Like, does it look as terrible as when you have motionflow enabled on your HDTV? That is the worst thing you can turn on to see a movie. It's better for gaming.

Have you read the book? Because the book (at least the first half) also lacks the 'urgency, scale, and progression' of LOTR. It's more of a fun, whimsical adventure with good characters.

$#@! gets real in the second half though.

Anyway, it seems some people will be disappointed with this first movie if you're expecting something with a lot of 'weight' to it, like LOTR. There really is no weight in the book until the characters start approaching Smaug.
