Really a film enjoyed more for it's cinematography and ambiance, and it's indie arthouse style reminded me of (the superior) film Drive. James Franco was great as always & really surprising to see 2 Disney Channel alum, Selena Gomez & Vanessa Hudgens, in a hard R-rated movie. Needed a better story and more dialogue, seems like Franco's role could've been even better if he was given more to work with. It did not make the mistake of running too long. A decent score composed by Skrillex & Drive composer Cliff Martinez.

Wait... this is actually comparable to Drive? Ok, I'll try it on home release.

It has a very similar style and feel to it (they have have the same composer), but this movie is less minimalistic than Drive, since this is about social commentary on today's teenage influences. There's a lot of boobs and partying.

Apparently most of the mainstream audience was expecting this to be some typical spring break flick, and ended up hating this in result. So yeah, expect a spring break movie with Drive's style and you will most likely enjoy it.

Exactly how I feel. It's definitely a rental; a matinee if you know what to expect & think you'll like it.

The funny film review podcast I listen to, Spill.com, joked in their audio review that it seems like the director didn't shoot enough footage hence why there are so many flashbacks/flashforwards/redundant footage haha!

On one hand the repetitive parts were a little annoying, but on the other hand they helped give the film a blurry, dreamlike quality that transcended linear time.

So I do think there was a reason for all of that.

American Movie: The Making of Northwestern - 9/10

I have never seen a funnier and more interesting doc on the process of getting a movie made. Seriously, the best part of this doc is the characters, specially his best friend, Mike Schank.

I could argue these are the best parts, but the whole doc is amazing. The first time this guy is introduced, it's hilarious, and it's simply because of the editing. I actually can't believe this guy is a real person. It's amazing.

    Paradise Lost: 7/10

My comm teacher is a big documentary nut and she recommended this and kept talking about it in almost every class. I decided to watch it, and while it's really $#@!ed up, and the Metallica music just emphasizes that point, it's not that great. There's frankly too much courtroom footage, and it loses me. It's about the West Memphis Three, who are actually innocent as of 2011. But basically, some satanic ritual was committed on three, eight year old kids. They were mutilated and murdered, and this doc does have the balls to show you the graphic footage. It's really messed up. I actually had a bad dream about it last night, but again, it focuses too much on the courtroom trails and shows how dumb the people of that town are. But it also makes me think that someone else who was interviewed actually killed those kids. There's just something about him that's not right....

    The Edge: 7.5/10

The Edge is a movie everyone should watch. Especially if you like adventure movies in the wild. You have Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin. Two guys stranded in the wilderness with a kodiak bear after them. This is the grizzly bear version of The Grey. And while it doesn't have the best writing, despite David Mamet being the writer; Anthony Hopkins is the only reason to watch this. He is such a $#@!ing badass.

    Just for this scene alone.

skip to 4:00 and continue to watch this pure gold

His use of "mother$#@!" is like watching baby jesus being born, it's so beautiful and mind-blowing.

    The Devil's Advocate: 10/10

Aside from Keanu's acting, although I think he did fine, this movie is $#@!ing awesome. And Al Pacino still hasn't lost his touch. I love the twist near the end, the build up to it is so gratifying. And the art direction and cinematography is beautiful. That shot of the empty NYC stretch with the crane shot above was mind blowing. But the best part is the third act and the end. I usually hate movies that depict Satan in a human host, but this is just too damn awesome. Al Pacino is a beautiful monster. Forget that Keanu is in this movie, and just enjoy it for the story. It's almost a modern day re-telling of Paradise Lost. And it was made at the right time, just at the peak of Y2K.

    The Croods 7/10

Visually it was amazing, but it was just okay. It felt a little awkward at times.

Zodiac - 8/10 It was an interesting movie. I knew of the zodiac killer but I didn't know any details. I enjoyed it.

Focus. Control. Conviction. Resolve. A true ace lacks none of these attributes. Nothing can deter you from the task at hand except your own fears. This is your sky.
