Also, do you happen to watch Rifftrax by any chance?
Indeed, really the fact that he said that just got the film more buzz.

YES! I've enjoyed a number of Rifftrax & am a big MST3K fan.

I Was really excited when I found out that Jim Carrey was going to be in it. Is his role minuscule or is it much like Nick Cage's role as Big Daddy in the first.

I would say Carrey (very unfortunately) gets less screen time than Cage did. Nonetheless, he's awesome in it.

Haven't seen university but Monsters Inc. Is probably my favorite Pixar movie. Next to the original Toy Story.

    WALL-E 9.5/10

Such a lovely and cute animated movie from Pixar. The best part is the sound design, done by Ben Burt, who created the sound effect for the lightsaber. I love the sounds he had for WALL-E and EVE. They're so cute! Aside from that, phenomenal animation work. This had to take a very long time just working even on one frame. I hope next gen games look like this movie in terms of graphics. This detailed. Even the gameplay.

What I found funny about the story is how in the future, Earth is a $#@!hole junkyard planet and everyone on the Axiom is morbidly obese with no diabetes or heart disease whatsoever. It's like that would a great tagline for the trailer. "In the future...mankind has...let themselves go. But one robot will save them all from certain diabetes. His name is WALL-E and he's coming to a fast food near you."

Would sum up how I saw things. I mean seriously, how did they not get diabetes being so fat?

I'm switching back to letter grades.

    2 Guns [Baltasar Kormákur; 2013] B
This one is surprisingly fun. Admittedly, most of the appeal of this film lies solely in the chemistry between Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg, but it really is some great chemistry. They bounce dialogue back and forth very naturally, and I think that's the number one ingredient in any good buddy cop movie. Aside from them though, the trio of villains (played by Edward James Olmos, James Marsden, and Bill Paxton) are fun to watch as well. It's a light and simple summer action flick with a huge body count, some solid set pieces, and two great lead performances.

The Canyons [Paul Schrader; 2013] B-
This movie is a total mess, a trashy art flick that attempts to make some grand statement about Hollywood fame but is ultimately quite hollow. And yet, it's an oddly compelling misstep from a legendary filmmaker that's trashy and bad in all the right ways. When you have a film directed by the writer of Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, written by the author of American Psycho, and starring celebrity washout Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen, you're going to get an interesting result at the very least. Call this one a guilty pleasure if you will.

    Trance [Danny Boyle; 2013] A-
This is the best Danny Boyle flick in awhile. It's a really cool mind trip with three very strong lead performances by James McAvoy, Vincent Cassel, and Rosario Dawson, a brilliant synth score (one of my favorite scores of the year), and a loose sense of reality that really kept me on my toes. This is one very stylish and cebebral thriller.

Also some films I saw a little while ago but didn't feel like reviewing.

The Wolverine [James Mangold; 2013] B+
    RED 2 [Dean Parisot; 2013] C
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows [Guy Ritchie; 2011] B+
Rock of Ages [Adam Shankman; 2012] B-
    Network [Sidney Lumet; 1976] A
Lost in Translation [Sofia Coppola; 2003] A+

Tim Curry as Pennywise is just awesome.
I don't find It to be all that scary, and actually, it's a rather silly film, but Tim Curry is really entertaining as Pennywise so I have a hard time disliking it.

Rate The Last Movie You've Seen

Prince Avalanche [David Gordon Green; 2013] B+
Don't go into this expecting a film the likes of David Gordon Green's usual gross-out stoner comedies. This is a subtle and warm indie comedy that works both as a tremendous rebound from the abysmal Your Highness and a complete reinvention Green himself in terms of what he can do as a director. Prince Avalanche is an amiable film bolstered by two strong lead performances by Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch, and although the scenery never changes, it never stops being compelling.

    Maniac [Franck Khalfoun; 2013] B+
This is easily one of the best horror remakes in awhile. It's entirely pointless and excessively violent, but also fascinating and creepy. I like the first-person camera and I really love the 80s synth score, but what really makes the film is Elijah Wood's twisted and haunting performance. It's an incredibly creepy and disturbing film that focuses less on story and more on visceral feeling.

(The sound makes half the movie. If you don't have a proper surround system, at least wear a decent headset or earplugs!)

So did anyone attend the special Rifftrax live screening event of Starship Troopers yesterday? It was amazing. Made the movie so much better and incredibly flawed. Just FYI, Rifftrax is the new name of the guys from Mystery Science Theatre 3000.

    Kick-Ass 2 [Jeff Wadlow; 2013] C+
Here is a sequel that completely fails to understand why the first movie is so cool. The original Kick-Ass was edgy and fun and didn't care if it was violent or morally ambivalent. Kick-Ass 2 just throws gross-out jokes and violence at the viewer in an attempt to be edgy; the big difference here is that one film doesn't care if it pushes boundaries while the other explicitly tries to in order to get a reaction. Jeff Wadlow clearly knows how to shoot some cool action scenes, and those make the film entertaining to a degree, but overall it's a huge disappointment. In spite of the sometimes-fun action and the great cast (including an awesome Jim Carrey), Kick-Ass 2 feels incredibly manufactured, a mere shell of its predecessor, one that only manages to be average at best.

    Elysium. 7/10

I'd been waiting for another Matt Damon film for some time--he truly never fails to disappoint; one of the great actors of our time, imho. Elysium's world-building, characterization, and immersion are second-to-none. The film does a truly excellent job of making this distant future seem completely logical, and it's a little haunting, because of it. Visuals are also supreme--director Neil Blomkamp has a wonderful eye for futuristic detail that is stunning, but not gaudy or unnecessary.

Where Elysium faltered is a by-the-numbers plot, rushed conclusion, a too-brief runtime, and pretty one-dimensional characters. I LIKED the characters, and they had very cool personalities; there just wasn't much depth there, or alterior motivations. Jodie Foster was pretty much the definition of comically evil.

    Kick Ass 2: 7.5-8/10

It's a good sequel to the first, but not yet a successor. There are things I loved about it more than the first, like the action sequences, the gore and the unexpected things occurring. I didn't see those coming. But that may also be its ugly. And the other thing that bothered me is that I watched Kick Ass again in the same day, but anyone else would notice the obvious replacement actors. That was kinda bull$#@!. The good thing about this is that it can become a series of movies because the comic was being written during when the first one was being filmed. It's a collaboration project. Jim Carrey's performance was great, although a flawed character. It's a very fun movie to watch, don't skip it.

Basically this movie crosses the line several times. INB4 $#@!storm from butthurt parents.

This was a really entertaining movie and I was laughing the whole way through, but like TRF said, it seemed like they didn't realize what made the first one so great. I was still very glad that I enjoyed the movie given all its horrid reviews. I guess I'm just a sucker for laughs and violence... lol.

"The biggest adversary in our life is ourselves. We are what we are, in a sense, because of the dominating thoughts we allow to gather in our head. All concepts of self-improvement, all actions and paths we take, relate solely to our abstract image of ourselves. Life is limited only by how we really see ourselves and feel about our being. A great deal of pure self-knowledge and inner understanding allows us to lay an all-important foundation for the structure of our life from which we can perceive and take the right avenues.”

The Evil Dead (the original from 1981, on blu-ray). A classic. This is the best edition (when it comes to picture and sound quality) I've seen of this movie so far. 8/10

I just watched this tonight and I agree with you fellas, was a decent film and made me laugh quite a lot, also shocked me as there were things I wasn't expecting!
I thought Jim Carrey was awesome, it's definitely good to see him do something other than make faces and weird noises, although I think Steve Carrel has taken over that role anyway

There were some parts I thought were a little lame but you have to take these things with a pinch of salt i guess! If people enjoyed the first film then I would definitely recommend Kick Ass 2, I'll give it 7/10
