Man of steel 10/10. I did not think focusing on the man and not the hero would be good but wow. It had its twist and showed the superman I knew.

    Don Jon: 8/10

What I love about Don Jon is that it starts out and plays on stereotypical characters, but uncovers their hidden layers underneath, and these people can change are not what they seem. It does it in a subtle way which works. Scarlett Johansonn looks like a pornstar in this so much. She's a minx in it and there is one really erotic and sexual scene with her and JGL. Lucky $#@!ing bastard! I would have botched so many takes on purpose to do those sequences again. But again, the writing of the characters is clever, because you think they're superficial, but they have more to show for than meets the eye. I think it's safe to say a lot of us can relate to Don Jon when it comes to sex and what you expect from it.

I tried to as vague as possible with the plot because the trailer did a very good job of not revealing much. Go watch this for Scarlett Johansonn, if not for anything else.

    The Wolf of Wall Street

Was fortunate enough to see an advance screening last week. Wolf of Wall Street is directed by Martin Scorsese & starring Leonardo DiCaprio and is as good as it sounds on paper.. It's as crazy & over-the-top as the trailers & poster you've seen. Wildly entertaining dark comedy, but the biggest flaw is it's exhausting, clocking in at 3 hours. Still highly-recommended. Opens tomorrow, Christmas Day.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Yep, another advance screening that I caught a few weeks ago; busy season. The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty is Ben Stiller latest theatrical directorial effort since Tropic Thunder featuring a fantastical tale filled with humor and a good heart. It does have problems with uneven pacing and tone and lacks the depth to transcend it to greatness. Oscar worthy, it is not sadly, but the 2nd best movie coming out tomorrow, Christmas Day.

Damn, I'm more hard pressed to see Walter Mitty, because it reminds me of Into the Wild, and that film got to me a on a very personal level. But, I also love The Wolf of Wall Street....Aaaah choices!

edit: Walter Mitty it is! Since they are not screening Wolf of Wall Street at my theatre..and it's closer to me anyway and I don't wanna go further since it's snowing and driving is hazardous.

    Oh and,

    The Iron Giant: 9.5/10

I want to create a time machine, go back to when I was a kid and kick my own ass for not seeing this movie when it came out. If I could relive my childhood, I would watch this movie in it. It's such a wonderful film, directed by Brad Bird, who did the recent Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol film.
What's so great about this is that for a less than 90 minute feature, it tells and shows a beautiful story of a kid whose only friend was a giant, kick ass, alien robot from outer space. This is what Michael Bay burrowed from to make Transformers, and now I'm sure of it. This is what Transformers should have been like. But all that aside, I loved the sound design. There are some wonderful effects for the robot and for an up and coming actor like Vin Desiel, he did a fantastic voice over for the robot. It goes to show how less lines is more, which is why I think he's gonna surprise people again with short lines in a voice over playing as Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy next year.

But, I just can't believe I skipped this movie. I think it would have been a lot more impact-full for me in elementary when I had bullies. Oh man. I love this film. I'm buying it.

    The score - 7/10

Strange movie and very brief ending, I understood it but wasnt really impressed. The planning processes of the heist is being shown a lot more than the Heist itself which was nothing special.

Outrage 8/10- Haven't seen many Yakuza movies but I liked this one a lot.

Elysium 8/10- I thought this was a really cool movie. Not near as good as District 9 but solid.

Elysium was pretty grand but it couldn't live up to it's own hype. The feeling of the setting/movie wasn't established thoroughly because there just wasn't enough time. Everything was put out there and explained and touched upon emotionally but it didnt grab you completely like D9 did.

    Biutiful: 8/10

Really helps put things in perspective. Although I dont really get the point of making these kinds of dramas that seem to just slope downward rather than move across the range, In still enjoyed it the more I watched. Life is rough out there for many.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty: 8/10

If you're unsure of what to see next, watch this to close off 2013. It's a very beautiful feel story that makes up for the pacing issues it has all over the place. The visuals are stunning, the music feels right for each moment and it's just an all around sweet story. I always found Kirsten Wig to be cute, but she's actually really beautiful if you get past the sarcasm. Oh and the light humour works, but the helicopter pilot sequence has to be the best and the longboard ride.

The Wolf of Wall Street: 9.5/10

I really did not expect that much awesome. I mean, yeah, the trailer was one thing, but this movie is whole nother beast! The writing is so clever because it makes people who live so naive think that this movie is glamorizing and encouraging these people's lifestyles. They forget that this is just showing it happened and it's based on a book adaption of Jordan Belfort's life experience. So no, it is not glamorizing anything and although it may seem trashy and rude and offensive because of the elements, it is not. But I am surprised how this didn't get an NC-17 rating. Martin Scorsese must be doing something right if he could convince the $#@!s at the MPAA to keep it at the R rating that it is.

This film is another way to close off the year. The only things I found questionable about it was the music selection in some places. In a lot of places, it worked, because it helps show which decade or part of the decade you're going through. It kinda works as a timeline , without having to put text on screen all the time. And I like the way it's structured. It kinda feels like a documentary or an interview and like Jordan Belfort is literally telling his autobiography to you, in person. It's real personal on that level, and you gotta appreciate the direction for that.

And of course, how could I not point out the phenomenal acting? This has to be Leo's best acting and if he doesn't get it, I don't know what kind of credibility the Academy even has anymore. I mean, one of the members hates this movie, so I'm worried it won't even get recognized. And second to Leo is Jonah Hill. This is his best role, by far. Moneyball comes in a close 2nd, and it was 1st, but Jonah Hill can really demnonstrate how articulate he can be with playing a "$#@!ing wierdo". And being a comedic actor pays off extremely well for this character. He just shines in every moment. You can tell him and Leo had some amazing chemistry on-screen and on-set.

And lastly, while some people are trashing this, they are forgetting this is also a comedy. I mean, the absurdity of Jordan's lifestyle is a comedy in itself. He's not billionaire, he's just a millionaire who worked his way up, without being born with a silver spoon up his ass, and he's always trying to do the next ridiculous thing. The life this guy has in the movie is adventurous and tragic.

God I love this movie. It may feel a little long because of the 3-hour run-time, and the pacing certainly feels that way, but what better way to sum his life up, then with amazing actors, moments and comedy. Day one blu-ray purchase and for the sake of your bodily fluids, pee and take a $#@! before you see this. You won't want to miss anything and also, bring a 1L bottle of something to drink, because you will be sitting on your ass for over 3 hours, with all the bull$#@! ads you're money is paying for, before the trailers even start to appear.

Dre- I agree that Wolf of Wall Street is a good movie and all, but I disagree that it deserves any Oscars. If anything, it'll get nominated strictly for being a Scorsese film and/or Leo's name. Both Gravity and American Hustle deserve the award over this, IMO. If this is your favorite of the year, then to each his own. As far as performances, I agree Leo does great (and I'm not a big Leo fan) but I just finished Captain Phillips... go watch that. Hanks could take it for the last 10 minutes alone. There's also 12 Years a Slave. I haven't seen it yet but I'm hearing phenomenal reviews about the performance.
