According to this japanese Nintendo related column of the "Yomiuri Shimbun" morning edition paper/mag, tomorrow a presentation is going to be held by SquareEnix on upcoming DQ titles.
It is uncertain to this point which titles are going to be presented.
But most likely it should be these:
- Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker (NDS)
- Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors (Wii)
BUT according to a guy (john tv) from the NeoGAF forums SquareEnix is about to uncloak a totally new, never before announced game from the Dragon Quest universe!
So let us keep our fingers crossed for this game to come for the PS3 as Nintendo already gets 2 new DQ titles (which are listed above).
My 2 cents: The Enix guys have been working on DQIX for the PS3 since the FF team starded their work on FFXIII. Who knows, maybe they are also using the White Engine for it
Worst case, most improbable scenario: DQIX exclusively for 360!

Dragon Quest IX perhaps or DQVIII-2? and you're right, they could quite well be using the White engine. I wonder if Level 5 will take on the next DQ...

I reckon Dragon Quest Swords will disappoint many... It's not your usual RPG, and as a game it's not from the most normal selection.
Oh well, here's some videos from it. The graphics are good/great, but the "on-rails" stuff isn't really turning me on...

I hope it's not too short of a game and that there's enough depth in the battle system.

I'm guessing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers is a game that is a bit closer to what people thought DQS would be. Though, at first even I didn't know that it was an on-rail "RPG", but thought it'd have a bit more freedom.
I'll definitely try to get this through my freelancer job, if it will ever be released in Europe. Even though it's disappointing it's not the kind of RPG than most Dragon Quest games are, I find the idea kinda interesting. The sword fights do look alright, when you can do all kind of magic and have to block attacks accurately. It's not like I've never played on-rail games before. I actually find Time Crisis and House of the Dead 2 great fun, more so than any Halos or Killzones, which are shooting games that are not on-rail...

Seeing as how during the last two generations Square (Enix) released DQ games pretty much at the end of the lifecycle of the PS consoles to reap the benefits of a huge installed base I don't see them changing that this time around by announcing Dragon Quest IX this early. DQ is bigger in Japan than Final Fantasy, I think they'd want to wait at least until the system has a hefty installed base.

Currently playing? Skyrim (360). White Knight Chronicles (PS3). Majoras Mask (Wii). Final Fanasy VII (PS2). Just completed? Final Fantasy VI.

No need to be open anymore. Nothing to do with PS3. There's already a thread about DQIX in Handled Consoles Section.
